I thought this was just an urban legend !

Not only are they being eaten but, boiled alive!

Can you imagine if this happened to your little pet?

Is Greenpeace or PETA or somebody fighting this?

I'm really doubting PETA or Greenpeace have any clout in China..lol Maybe Greenpeace can destroy one of China's National treasures in retaliation!

There's a special Karma reserved for perpetrators like these.

May they be reincarnated as cats and receive the same fate they inflicted on other cats.

While I am not going to judge them for eating cat or dog, I hardly think they need to boil them alive. Let's face it, there are a few animals that we tend to keep as pets in Western countries that are food elsewhere: rabbits, guinea pigs ...

I wonder if there is a thread on an Indian Conspiracy Website highlighting what happens to Cows in a slaughterhouse...

I'm sure that's how the World works.

Thanks you just ruined my night !!! Why do people post SH$T on here like this I am so sick of this kind of crap on here about animals being abused.
I think it's high time we have someone DELETE this crap. I KNOW it happens, but I am really tired of hearing about it.
Sick of it and it's pretty hard to scroll through it on the new page without it seeing it and it's really disturbing!!!!

Much of this comes as results of major famines in China.

The most recent in the late 1950s and early 1960s under Communist Mao.

The Northern Chinese don't eat cats as a rule.

The Southern areas around Guangzhou (ancient City of Canton) cats are eaten regularly.

List of famines in China

Boiling while alive seems horrific to me but at least the cat was dead when people ate it . Not so lucky for these creatures below .

listverse.com...

Although now i think about it perhaps a few quick chomps would be a better way to go .

It is illegal to boil lobsters alive in Australia , New Zealand , and England to name a few .

Another method is to split the lobster or sever the body in half lengthwise. Lobsters may also be killed or rendered insensate immediately before boiling by a stab into the brain

However .

a lobster's brain operates from not one but several ganglia and disabling only the frontal ganglion does not usually result in death or unconsciousness.

So this has been invented .

A device called the CrustaStun has been invented to electrocute shellfish such as lobsters, crabs, and crayfish before cooking. The device works by applying a 110 volt, 2–5 amp electrical charge to the animal. It is reported the CrustaStun renders the shellfish unconscious in 0.3 seconds and kills the animal in 5 to 10 seconds, compared to 3 minutes to kill a lobster by boiling.

So in a few short quotes this is the journey from boiling to electrocution .

This is terrible.

While this is as terrible as it is, why don't we see similar outrage over factory farming? I've seen videos of what they do here in America and it is just as brutal and cruel.

My name is Henry the Cat. Together, we are forming a coalition of cats to go after these evil cat terrorists. I have been on the phone with other leaders of cats and our military is ready to pounce once and for all to rid this cancer from our planet. I'm also utilizing our underground network of cat intelligence agencies, to gather intelligence and for interrogation at Katmandu, our camp and holding area for cat terrorists. Also, our network of mercenary felines is already on their way as we speak, and we will bring back our cats home alive!! (/end parody)

Not a nice way to kill your food but still.... I wonder what it tastes like

Don't we do the same things to lobsters. Some restaurants have you pick them live before they make them. Just because we view animals as cute and cuddly pets, does not mean everyone does. I love hamburgers and would not want someone in India making a fuss. So I can't really complain about this.

They do have domesticated pets actually. It's pretty chic to have enough money for that. It's in style to be able to afford to have pets and feed and clothe them.

Like others said the culinary choices were a direct result of famines. Just like other parts of the world.

When a generation grows up with their peers dying in the street and having nothing to eat but some gutter animal it's going to linger for a few years after.

It's mostly poor people who still do this though. And there are some weird delicacies and myths that remain but for the most part the newly rich upper middle class are shedding a lot of that stuff and trying to be cool enough to fit in with the international community.

The food for the most part is pretty tasty and pretty mundane.

Now, I do not like thinking about cats being eaten let alone boiled alive. Though the article made it sound like they aren't boiled completely alive. Not saying it makes it any better, maybe it even makes it worst? How many people would have a problem with this if they were completely killed first? Is it really that big of a deal? Is it really any different than the cattle in a slaughterhouse? Besides the fact cats are way cuter than bovines (imo anyway). Maybe that's one reason why some people perceive this as cruel? What about lobsters and such? Aren't those boiled alive here in the US?

I wouldn't even need to give a second thought to eating any animal. The more exotic the better.

Boiling them alive can't be worth the extra flavor....
