We recently had one of the local junior hockey associations debate banning spectators at all..a fairly big deal here. Too many ahole's period and in the case nothing to do with racism..more about bad behavior in general..mostly by parents. Is this a growing problem? Is the bad behavior by pro's rubbing off.

Yes the incident in the OP is racist..I was relating with the OP to what was debated here regarding banning all spectators in the juniors.

It's not just the natives that face discrimination, but also those like myself who are of mixed/Metis status. I will say, depending on who you talk to, you will find discrimination, but not always.

I remember once back when I was in middle school being told by a fellow with Scandinavian background, that I had "dirty blood". I replied with some smugness saying "at least mutts are healthier". Needless to say, I didn't get picked on by that guy in middle school after I had said that.

It's sad, but true, I wish this sort of discrimination and racism didn't happen at all, but there will always be jerks.

That is true, although I particularly have never seen anything. In Brazil, everybody is so mixed that I wish I could say that was rare, but I've heard enough - even though, again, I've never been a witness myself - to know that maybe I've just been very lucky so far.

However, my grandfather's parents came from Japan. My grandfather was born here, but he faced A LOT of discrimination... he even had to adopt a "Brazilian" name, cause his first name is Japanese.

I don't really understand this need to push away any cultures that are "different", but maybe not understanding it is a good thing. Those racist/xenophobic actions are so vile, I'd hate to be doing that.

I agree with you.

Mixing will happen no matter where you are, and the same goes for discrimination. This is coming from someone who is Canadian, and we're just as bad when it comes to treating our native population. Grandma had to face the Residential school for being Metis.

I believe that Clyde Warrior (Member of AIM back in the 60s and 70s) was asked what would happen if there was another Indian war. He supposedly said, "We may lose but they'd be able to tell we put up one hell of a fight." Or something to that effect. He's right. We might lose but not before opening up a butt woopen.
