did you know that nypd actually has anti terrorist intel agents in the middle east....don't ask me how or why they have their own city funded agents in the middle east but they do indeed....or at least did back when I was in the know.

I remember when I first heard that I couldn't believe it....they view themselves as an army...they will probably order fighter jets next.

The smart thing to do is stop ALL travel from nations that are controlled by the enemy.(Any comment naming the real enemy gets poofed-I guess score one for the terrorists at least as far as ATS goes.)

Tell me how would that have prevented the Boston Bombing?

I wouldn't go so far as to say they'd order jets. But it wouldn't surprise me if they weren't rolling down the street in an urban painted Abrams tank soon.

Out of curiosity,

What counter-terrorism defence do you think the City of New York should have?

The National Guard. The police already have APC's with sound cannons. SWAT is a good pick also. I guess you like having the military on the streets. What's next, are they going to ask you for your papers? I'll keep my eye wide open before settling into a comfort zone. If I didn't learn anything about history, I might be like you. I'm sure Germany didn't see it coming either.

National guard as counter-terror....

How about the FBI or the department of homeland security...maybe they can deal with terrorism?

talk about wasting resources and creating pork barrel spending within a state...this is a joke!

The saterday night soldiers maybe not so much....But we do have Delta force as the Brits have the SAS....These are the people who should be dealing with such attacks....
Duplication of effort and spending is just stupid greed and a power grabbing by the forces creators...NYPD

Personally i would not worry to much. Those dudes will be easily spotted a mile away and to be honest there field of vision from that helmet looks to be somewhat retarded. Although i suppose that could mean more people get shot.

Again "DELTA FORCE!!!!"

The FBI's HRT is probably the closest you are going to get

The reason that we Brits can use the SAS is because we don't have posse Comitatus that prohibits the use of Armed forces for maintaining law and order.

If you are saying that you would support the use of Delta then that means you are also saying you would support a suspension of posse comitatus. Now I am not 100% of the exact legals but i do know that JSOC units can provide advice and some limited support to the police when it comes to counter-terrorism, such as at Waco, but to actually deploy them would take a act of Congress.

it just amazes me that so many people on this site talk about how a militarized police is a step towards Martial law, yet at the same time would support a suspension of posse comitatus to have the military deployed during a terrorist attack and thus effectively evoking true martial law.

We Britts can do it because our legal system is different.

ya the jet part was a joke....ive never looked up their budget but i bet its pretty high..although im sure they do have a few planes and even drones. There are quite a few county departments that have their own drones now...although a drone nowadays can be a model airplane with a camera taped to it.

Defund the NYPD, overturn the assault weapons ban, and allow open carry. A free people should by definition be able to police themselves.

Yeah that would be REAL effective.............

Im not talking about the gun control but the lack of a organized police force!

The guard only gets called when there is a REAL problem. They don't police the streets daily. That's the difference. I'm sure you can relate to that, right?

Thats the problem.

anti terrorist squad needs to be ready to respond in minutes.

Having a anti terrorist police unit does not mean have to men having jackboots patrolling streets harassing innocent people.

If they do there jobs correctly you should never have to see them.

Its like that in the UK, only once when we were on high alert have I ever seen our counter terrorist units.

They dont deal with the normal police work anymore than a homicide cop deals in parking tickets.

Now that is the problem I see here.

Remove the and protests bit and I see no problem with a anti terrorist squad.

Mke sure they have a very clear jurisdiction.

what? terrorism is included in the same context as protests?

wow. sad.

With Machine Guns even!

I can understand going after the protesters engaged in violence, but that is not how they do it. They shut the whole protests down because they do not want protests to exists anymore.

I think the bigger issue is that it's NOT just for "counterterrorism." The article states quite plainly it's for protests and "disorder control" as well as counterterrorism.

I don't see it spreading to all cities, maybe the larger ones - Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, etc.

Haveing untrained disorganised heavly armed dip#s running round one of the most densly populated citys in world would just result in random black and brown people being shot for looking shifty and........

O wait you cops are like that anyway

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.
