Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has died in hospital, state TV says.

The announcement, made early on Friday, said his brother, Salman, had become king.

Before the announcement, Saudi television cut to Koranic verses, which often signifies the death of a senior royal.

King Abdullah, who was said to be aged about 90, had been in hospital for several weeks suffering from a lung infection.

The king came to the throne in 2005 but had suffered frequent bouts of ill health in recent years.

Saudi King Abdullah dies aged 91

Could get ugly. Let's see how the new king handles the threats from IS.

You`re right about it could get ugly.

Here`s an excellent read about it from 16 Jan...

What game is the House of Saud playing?

The House of Saud now finds itself in times of extreme trouble. Their risky oil price war may eventually backfire. The succession of King Abdullah may turn into a bloodbath. And the American protector may be musing a change of heart.

A successor has been named . I see no reason for the Saudis not to continue down the well worn Wahhabi path .

You do realize there's this thing called "time zones", right? The announcement would have been made on Friday, their time, from what I see.

This change of leadership should be interesting. Only time will tell if the new king is better, the same, or worse.

This is big anyways but coming the heels of the last year with IS, the Paris attacks and yesterday's events in Yemen ....it's huge.

But, just to give a whacky conspiracy/woo element to it, seems like this guy has died several times now.
. Kidding, as far as you know.

ETA: Just now, former CIA intelligence officer Bob Baer just stated on CNN that he's never seen the ME this bad...

I'm sure ISIS is wondering who will fund them now... they just lost one of their benefactors. At least they still have the CIA and Mossad cutting them a check.

Saudi civil war is even closer now.

That really depends entirely on whether or not the public accepts him, and especially if his own family does. I get the impression being in charge in the Saud family is rather cutthroat at best.

When I was a Registered Nurse I took care of the King and the Princess. Both were in for the same condition, and other family members were afflicted with the same problem. Either it's a genetic issue or this is one of the unhealthiest families ever.

Won't more terrorist groups cause problems for Saudi Arabia? Weren't they paying groups to not cause trouble over there? Probably mistaken...

Why would he need to go to Paris? Did I miss something somewhere?

I just had this flash up on my phone and my first thought was GOOD however i doubt anything much will
change the place will remain a Wahhabi sinkhole ruled by western (Rothschild) backed scumbags.

the beatings executions and persecution will continue.
women will still be treated as property and they will still be a funding point for any and all Muslim fundamentalist
nutters with an eye to spreading their twisted version of sky fairy worship.
