I agree with Neeson. Allowing more guns in the population will only result in augmenting the number of gun-related violence. It's pure, simple logic. When I want to put out a fire, I don't add more fire to it - I cut the air and I dump water.

Am I opposed to the Right to Bear arms? No. I am opposed to the distribution of these arms to people who have no training, have mental issues, and/or are antisocial. The Constitution was made to protect the people above all - not encourage its autodestruction.

Ummm nottrue. You can use a back fire to control the area in front of a fire and deprive it of fuel

I do support the Pirates actually. They're way better than any of that trash on the left or right IMO so respect.

BUT!! (you're not off the hook! ...noticed this?)

In your opinion you think a BURGER JOCKEY should NOT have an opinion on how to build a computer since that's not his thing right?? Therefore a regular Joe who is not a politician should not be able to have an opinion on politics because well....it's not his thing. People who do not make music and are only critics should then NOT be available to criticize said music since they know nothing about the process of making it. This also means Roger Ebert would've been employed in something different and all film critics of his kind. This also means I can't know a whole lot of the things I know. Do I have to report to you and are you and your kind the thought police? Because trust me on this one. I teach myself A WHOLE LOT OF THINGS! That have nothing to do with my actual profession. For all you know I might work with building computers but be a burger jockey hobbyist (is it allowed in reverse?) This is the problem I have with you guys saying so and so shouldn't have a voice in this or that because he works with this other thing.....it's 2015. WE MULTITASK GODDAMMITT!!
And this whole thread is in response to the events in Paris which revolve a lot around FREE SPEECH. Yet every one of you is prohibiting Mr. Neeson to study his right to free speech. So that begs the question, are you guys just hypocrites? Is it just free speech when it comes to making fun of Muslims?
Just look over this thread , people are furious that this guy has an opinion

No, you misread my intent or maybe I just didn't fully elaborate as I am doing this on cell phone. Everyone has a right to their opinion and voicing it. However, how much weight would you give a plumber's opinion on brain surgery, especially if he was trying to correct the opinion of a neurosurgeon? I am not saying a politician's opinion of politics is valid in any way either because I think it is common knowledge that most, if not all are bought and paid for puppets,

As far as the "burger jockey" goes, if he/she were an out of work hardware/software engineer, then they would have a valid opinion hopefully on designing computers.

What's that old phrase? "Opinions are like @ssholes, everyone's got one."

Cheers - Dave

I haven't read thru all 15 pages of this but we don't need gun control in the U.S., we need "Actor Control" !!! These Hollywood Bozo's run around shooting off their hypocritical mouths. They film these violent movies and they don't think twice about it. They glamorize the violence and then they wonder why people kill.

I responsibly own my guns and will never use them except to defend myself, my nation or my fellow citizens from a power hungry gov't.

Usually the actors are nothing more than hired help. It's the producers and screenwriters that are to blame for glamorizing violence.

Actors have as much right to express their views in a free society as the guy working in a grocery store. If you're tired of the Hollywood Bozo's, why don't you write a movie expressing how you feel. Start here....

Or continue whining...your choice. Have something to say? Join us in the indy world and let your voice be heard; don't be a hypocritical bozo just shooting your mouth off.

It does suck doesn't it.

There are many actors and musicians I used to love until they had to open their mouth about things not related to their profession.

Why do they have to go and ruin a good thing by talking.

There is absolutely no comparing the two. I am not going to type it again. I posted why this isn't remotely comparable a few pages back.

Mr. Neeson is entitled to his views, whether you strongly disagree with them or not. A lot of people are jumping on the "he's only an actor, therefore his opinions mean nothing" bandwagon, without considering that many people on this site often comment on topics with which they haven't had direct personal experience. If you don't like or flat-out disagree with his comments then refute them using logical, reasonable arguments to tear them down. Don't resort to ad hominem attacks or other logical fallacies.

Just a note about the comment

"When I want to put out a fire, I don't add more fire to it - I cut the air and I dump water."

Sometimes you can't cut the air and sometimes water alone isn't going to do it.

Backfire - A fire set along the inner edge of a fireline to consume the fuel in the path of a wildfire or change the direction of force of the fire's convection column.

Burnout - Setting fire inside a control line to consume fuel between the edge of the fire and the control line.

Counter fire - Fire set between main fire and backfire to hasten spread of backfire, as well as to stop, delay, or split a fire front, or to steer a fire.

These are 3 examples of alternate methods used to control and put out a fire, especially a giant one, say a large forest fire.

----------------

Neeson is just spouting his mouth off, much like Jim Carey did as well. It certainly cut down the amount of respect I had for him (and the same goes for Carey). Just like with Carey I find his comments hypocritical and I certainly won't be going to see his movies anymore, along with a small list of other actors that have turned me off of them with their running mouths.

I hate BBC it qhen celebrities speak on politics and show their ignorance. France has no guns and yet these guya got 2 full auto aka and an rpg for a third of what those weapons would go for (and the aks require special license and you cant get grenades) they go for in the US. Plus they got them from arms dealers in Belgium. One could argue without access to semi autos in the US anyone looking to create problems would prob end up with more dangerous full auto weapons.

Not that you want them with either, but think about it.

And of course he makes his millions on action gunplay fantasy films. This series even playing on the idea of protecting ones family with guns (I believe in the firat movie he even illegally gets weapons in France ironiiicc).

If the those killed in the Paris tragedy had been allowed to have guns, they might have a chance to defend themselves. But we have to admit, the liberals once again have made another brilliant leap in logic: Take the guns from all the honest citizens, and this will insure that the criminals and terrorists will leave us alone. (Dhuuuuuuuuuuu)

There are also gun control countries with much higher rates of homicide than the US.
The UK has a fishy history for their gun control.. and now have anti knife rallies, and turn in your knife sites like the US does gun buy outs.

Do a little research (as I have) and what you find is that in countries without guns the stabbing rates go through the roof.
In England for example, a country the size of a small state, the number of stabbings last year is approaching 30,000.

You are really going to try and convince me that a guy stabbing some other guy is comparable to men opening fire on a bunch of journalists?

A man with a knife cannot kill a dozen of journalist simultaneously, and has to engage into hand-to-hand combat with most of his victims. A man with a machine gun can avoid all that. That's why guns were invented, remember?

A man with a knife killed 10 people today in Jerusalem. I believe that is more than your "half a dozen".

Palestinian stabs up to 10 people in Jerusalem
