Saudi cleric proclaims snowman-building 'anti-Islamic'

Now, this is just sad. It's why organized religion sometimes makes me crazy.

People in Saudi Arabia - the second hottest country in the world - have recently had a chance for some fun, building snowmen following freak snowstorms that have hit the country. However, the hilarity has been proclaimed sinful by a Saudi scholar.

These people are just playing in the snow -- a rare treat -- for crying out loud. There's always a legalistic voice that comes along and says "You can't do that." Source

But it shows how most of the average citizens are enjoying it and not thinking about religion while doing so.

Nothing like fundamentalist dogma to take the wind out of people's sails.

Life is all about living in fear, dontchaknow... not having a laugh and wearing a smile.

This is truly pathetic and a major reason I do not believe in organized religion. There always has to be some idiot with a stick up their a**, telling you what you're doing is wrong. Meanwhile, after the service, said idiot is off to the brothel and to see his coke dealer.

It's not "religion." Islam doesn't say a single thing about any of this. Really, truly, it does not.

Rather, it is an issue of trying to force control over people, and trying to use religion as cover.

Exactly! Does anybody think Islam in the long run would disallow people from playing with snow? A sense of humanity isn't negated by religion, Buddhists like rollercoasters (I'm sure some do lol), Christians like to rock out, Jews dance, etc, etc. This is just as you said, people using religion as a cover to control people

He is not Muhammad, or any Prophet of Islam to think he has a right to share revelations from Allah...

One thing for sure is there is an abundance of threads that deal with the middle East and I for one am tiring of the bashing either way those threads swing.

Even in "Chit Chat" I hate a post a thread and run....... Come back OP with a link to the news story please.
