Douchey elitism free thinking.

It's the opposite actually. You're advocating against free thinking.

you can think whatever you want about me, I am not going to be baited by your insults.

I think that publishing a picture of the prophet Mohammed whit satire is just as offensive as a publishing a statement brandishing all blacks as lazy or all homosexuals as paedophiles. To me it is hypocritical that we live in a society that will tolerate one yet be outraged by another.

you disagree that is fine.

The difference between me and you is that I am not going to suggest you apply for a job with the thought police.

I can respect that you have different views from me, I am happy to debate those views with you but I will not be baited by insults.

It's the lack of superego or their ego just ignoring it. They drug the water supply?

Why does one want/need to offend anyone? Pretty shallow life if that is one's objective imo.

Dude, Carlin and the 7 words you can't say on TV? I know you're a big Carlin fan because I've seen the numerous quotes by you
so I also know you're educated enough on exactly why Carlin did that skit. That was intended to offend and shock, and in the same vein, to disarm the words. "They're just worrrrrds, man." The best comedy ever laughed at stemmed from either tragedy or mockery and, again, you and I both know full well that wherever there is tragedy or mockery, there will be people who become belligerantly offended at anyone who fails to show expected reverence. Religiously speaking, you also know full well Carlin intentionally tried to offend. You don't say "Who wants to belong to a religion whose primary symbol is a man nailed to two boards?" and not know you're gonna piss off a goodly number of folks.

If Carlin was alive today and an ATS member, he'd almost certainly wade into THREADS OF OUTRAGE and tell everyone on both sides to chill the * out. (and promptly receive a censor circumvention warning in the process, but that's a discussion for another time.
)

i am not interested in making fun of or insulting people, but i remember a time in America when you never heard the nasty comments now aimed at Christians or vilifying Christ, these cartoonist did not only single out the prophet of Islam, I am not a fan of such things, but they shouldn't be slaughtered for it.

I think the point is that we should live in an equal opportunity world. I tolerate every lifestyle under the sun. But making fun of them all is part of having humility. This holier than thou crap only works for the very prideful. If you take offense to something, I think it shows a major weakness in your security in it, so its only funnier to keep driving it deeper. Every non-muslim in the world should be posting cartoon versions of Muhammad on their Facebook walls right now to prove that we don't care about that chink in their armor. We can say what we want. They can't kill us all.

aaannnnd, why is it we can pick and choose who not to offend, seems like offending Christianity is not on the list.

That's why I get touchy, and I am not a good Christian, in fact they probably wouldn't claim me.
However, I know most are good people as well.

To me personally I think race and sexual orientation are more important to respect than religion because they are not made up and are tangeable.

I know it was tongue-in-cheek, but the premise of that is pretty silly, really. If one scoured ATS' T&C policy and compared it against the words attributed directly to Jesus in the New Testament, I can't think of a single violation there.
