No - I want both men (myself included) and women to live as we were created to live.

I'll let you in on a little secret...men truly feel their greatest when they can do something special for a woman or for their family.

Sorry that that bothers you.

Grow a spine. No one else is responsible for the actions of someone, they make the choices. There isn't a woman standing over a pedophile priest with a rolling pin saying 'do it'. Blaming others may be in vogue these days, but it is lame and weak.

And I'll let you in on a little secret. It's not 1950, cultural paradigms have changed; and sorry, Catholicism and it's sexist views just won't fly in the modern world no matter how much you want them to. Sorry if that bothers you.

The "Leave it to Beaver" world has been gone for some time and it ain't coming back!

I think you should read the referenced article before making a statement like this.

"Unfortunately, the radical feminist movement strongly influenced the Church..."
Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke

You may disagree with this statement, but to deny that people can and do hold sway over the actions of others is silly.

In this case, Cardinal Burke claims that feminists have had a detrimental effect on the
Church - the evidence overwhelmingly supports his assertion.

Denying this would be like denying that the plague of abusive clergy is overwhelmingly tied to homosexual deviance - not to children.

And what a terrible loss this is for our society, our culture, and our children.

Have you watched a move from this era lately? Men and women dressed formally in front of each other, and in public. Families treated each other with respect. Vulgarity and boorishness were shameful.

It was a better time, and the history we are writing today will prove that.

Maybe instead of a spine, you need an education. If a man is homosexual he is interested in other men, not children. Homosexuality and Pedophilia are two different things.

can't the same be said of women though? and well it ain't true for all men or all women!

My friend when we were younger came home after she got out of work with her pay in hand and well hubby was there waiting at the door demanding the money which she refused to do! it was the grocery money.
so well he pushed her down the stairs and took the money and headed to the bar leaving her to miscarry at the bottom of the stairs! there are too many exceptions to to the generalizations for take them as gospell!

when I was a kid and this was back in the 60's we went to our grandma's a few times every year to visit for a week and I would play with the neighbor's kids. there were six on them if I remember right. well the father was a lawyer and when mom was pregnant with the last of the kids he decided to run off with his sexytary.
the child support laws were crap back then if they even existed by the way!

for some of us the "Leave it to Beaver" time never existed
mothers worked back then
couples divorced heck both my father and my mom were divorced before the met each other
the men were sometimes jerks
the women were sometimes jerks (my father's first wife knocked him out by banging his head with a frying pan a few times!

now though there is less pressure to stay together when things just couldn't work out

Tell me then, why more than 90% of the reported abuse cases involved post-pubescent (read: sexually mature) males?

Tell me also why the predatory subculture of homosexual men is focused in laser-beam fashion on teenage boys?

You are correct when you say that homosexuality and paedophilia are two completely different disorders.

You are not correct when you link the sexual abuse mess of the Catholic clergy to paedophilia.

It was, and remains, a problem of homosexuality.

Do your homework first, then tell me who needs the education.

You make some good points.

Neither of my grandfathers were gentlemen.

Thankfully, there were men in my family, and the community around my family who were.

My great grandparents lived across the street from Harper Lee. There is much of my great grandfather in Atticus Finch.

I believe you are drawing your information from the John Jay report, the one that American Bishops paid half the cost of?? Can you say skewed data?

That pattern of abuse by priests has been seized on by some who would link the assaults to the high number of gay priests in the church. Scholars say that somewhere between 1 and 10 percent of the general population is gay, but that in the priesthood it may be as high as 50 percent. Yet many scholars say the link between homosexuality and the abuse of teenage boys is unclear.

Specialists also don't know what percentage of priests who molest boys are gay. And, they say, there are other equally important factors in the abuse of adolescent boys by priests, including the stunted psychosexual development of some priests, the access priests have to teenage boys, and the authority priests have over them.

Well, yes.

Facts matter, except when they go against whatever belief you want to cling to.

Unclear?

OK then, I can see why you would want to dismiss the John Jay report.

Oh the irony in which Burke calls the over-feminization of the Catholic Church.

Isn't he supposed to be Catholic? Marian devotion dude, the whole concept of the Mother church. Oi....

If anything, the patriarchal culture and hierarchy of the Church has been it's downfall.
The congregation has the priest to watch over them, then the bishops, then the archbishops, then the cardinals, then the Holy Father and Vicar in Rome, and he is guided by God - whom is apparently male too.

Why shouldn't we have female priests, bishops, popes? Why? Because of Eve???

The only thing that is to blame for pedophile priests is indeed the pedophile himself. And following blame to that is those within the church which cover up and shelter such behavior.

I understand the sentiment I guess - re: radical feminism. Am I a radical for wanting men to be free to be men, women to be free to be women, and those that identify as neither to be free to identify however they want? Am I radical for wanting peace and love between all identities? The whole point of Christianity is to help guide us to be better people, and to make the most of what we've been given in this life.

I don't like this Pope, nor did I like Ratzinger, I am very suspicious and untrusting. There is much to be done to heal the church and bring back faith - but the Pope's actions in this case are at least a step in the right direction.

Our Tradition says it has nothing to do with Eve, and everything to do with Eve.

Eve's fall has nothing to do with it. Eve's uniquely feminine being has everything to do with it.

I regret the mistrust and suspicions you feel, and in many ways, I understand them.

Jesus told us "I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."

Trust in that.

Those at the top are all paedophiles.

They have to present themselves as good because... that's what evil does.

'Hell yeah. I dress like a man. I really need a cape that doesn't scream "Priscilla . Queen of the desert"...a cape that appears as manly as possible, in front of other men.'

I bet some lifer prisoner has uttered these words (or words to that effect)...there are no women around...

...or it could be a 'HEY! LOOK OVER THERE! FEMINISTS!'...
