Why would a parent who lost a child in such a horrible manner have an affinity with other parents who lost a child in the same way? I think humanity runs deeper than political or religious differences.

No, I seriously doubt this is even remotely linked to any kind of solidarity. The situation is entirely different. My working theory is that it's a secret signal of some sort...to someone. Who knows.
