I remember reading that China had announced some big secret about the moon that the US was hiding. China promised to release the dirty little secret, yet I have seen or heard nothing about it since. Anyone remember this?

I don't remember, but sometimes I can miss a lot.

If you are looking to China to tell the truth or expose secrets...
You're better off with NASA even..

They orbited the moon and took pictures, was it about that? And I guess they said they wanted to do a moon landing in the future, but I don't know how capable they are.

I seem to remember something about china claiming they had pictures of the moon that were very different to the ones nasa released, it was a few years ago now.

Yes because NASA were using 65 year old technology. Are you surprised?

Funny all the claims being made without a single source. Carry on with ignorance. I will deny it.

The OP is going off memory and asking for help with a source. But keep on denying your ability to help someone.

No he's not. He is saying it's true, with no source, asking who else remembers it.

The question is not who remembers it, it's is it true. Then others jump in with similar claims, and none provide a source.

That's what we call ignorance. There was no promise. There was no secret.

there isnt much 'press' about their Rover on the moon either.

we're getting better pics on Mars than they are getting on the Moon, maybe they found space aliens there or a secret space facility we shouldnt find out about

Are you calling him/her a liar? This has happened to me before too. I watch the news a lot and bulletins pop up. If I let too much time go by, then try and search it I cannot find it because the search terms are too generic.

I get what your saying with people jumping the gun with no source but I don't see how that is the fault of the OP in this case. The OP made no claim, only posted a memory and asked if anyone else can remember.

No. If I was going to call them a liar I would say it. They bought into a HOAX, and never fact checked it. Then other people responded by talking about other HOAXES, they never fact checked.

Ignorance is not a lie, it's just ignorance.

My post you replied to talked about the problem of the people in the thread making fantastic claims as if it was TRUTH without one single source to back any of it up.

THEN POST IT!! I didn't know it was a hoax and I doubt the OP did either. If the information the OP needed was that it was a hoax, then give it up. This is a community, not JUST a pissing contest.

ATS is not about people making the most ridiculous fantastical claims that are true until proven false. It's not my job to police every post because people decide they do not need to source their OP claims.

Give a man a fish feed him for a day, teach him to fish and feed him for a lifetime. I am not feeding people for a lifetime, they need to learn posting claims like this with no source is NOT acceptable.

ETA: Just in case someone talks about this being the Gray Area ... that gives leeway, it does not give a license to post about supposedly legitimate news stories without sourcing them.

If you want to claim you think the US hiding stuff, go for it. The moment you say China has made a claim about something ... you have crossed the line without proving China made said claim.

WIRED

For the last week, rumors have flooded the Net that China’s moon photo, posted here and elsewhere, was a fake. Some bloggers and commentators argued that in fact it was a NASA photo, and that the Chinese hadn’t produced anything original at all.

The rumors reached such a pitch that Chinese lunar scientist Ouyang Ziyuan felt compelled to refute them on Monday, noting a bit acerbically that the Chinese and American orbiters did, in fact, take pictures of the same spot.

From this thread

It is from 2010....

OP, I think this dates back to 2009 to 2012, when Chang-1 and Chang-2 were sending back detailed images of the moon from a low orbit, and claims were floating around on the Web that the pics showed buildings - pyramids and ziggurats, and that the Chinese satellite was going to blow the lid off of NASA's long held secret of bases on the moon. I think it was a lot of conspiracy theorists and UFO-believers who put words into China's mouth by claiming they were going to expose NASA with photo releases from Chang-2 of alleged moon bases. Obviously that never happened, although the images from Chang-2 are still posted regularly with some claim or artificial construction evidenced.

I guess a source showing exactly what they were talking about would be helpful then, wouldn't it?

That is what I assume they meant as well, which is a proven HOAX. China never said any such thing, and it was actually China who got attacked by theorists, saying they never went to the Moon and were using NASA photos.

Exactly, in fact I find it a bit silly that anyone would think officials in the Chinese government would make such a claim. People on the Web were just publishing vids from Chang 2 and making all sorts of claims, adding the phrase "China claims...," an often-used "appeal to authority" tactic in such claims. But for the record, 2012 had a lot of such videos claiming that this was going to be a big expose coming from the "Chinese."
