Probably a rock, definitely a gooder though

An ‘alien coffin’ might possibly be added to the long list of curious objects found on the surface of the Red Planet. Puzzled UFO enthusiasts now want NASA’s Curiosity rover to take a closer look.

Either way, it is a VERY odd looking object, and very out of place in the terrain.

Careful opening it, don't want to loose any Martian Vampires upon the universe!

I called my hubby over to look at it, and his comment was priceless.

He said, "Do you know how much of our space debris falls on Mars? For crying out loud people, enough with the Mars photos!".

Made me laugh!

Why don't we get close-ups of these intriguing objects on Mars? I'm sure NASA is as curious as the rest of us. I say move the rover closer damn it! Lets put an end to this "what do you think this is" game. If they really want to keep us in the dark, why release these photos?

We need to see the original NASA photo, but if this is real, that sure does not look like a normal mars rock.

In fact I would bet that is part of one of our failed Mars missions.
Part of an old nasa or soviet mars mission is my guess..

It looks like a hanger,or large barn-but its more likley to be a bit of space junk IMO.

For a straight, column shaped rock it's awfully out of place. And what's with the line going down the length of it? That's some neat pareidolia, but I think maybe it's some sort of container, maybe left from another rover?

It looks like a stone molding for the top of a building to me.

So thats where they shipped 'Dracula's' coffin to.

Yes, I agree it does look like a coffin but I doubt it very much.

Does it have a shadow or is it laying on top of another slab?

The rover's motions are usually planned out days or even months in advance. A lot of math goes into making sure the Rover moves in such a way that it doesn't get caught in a rut, or stuck on rock, or any other number of terrain hazards that present themselves. At minimum, there is a four minute communication delay between Mars and Earth, at maximum it's about 24. So moves have to be very carefully planned so as not to leave any room for error.

Because of this, while I'm sure a lot of NASA researchers saw the photo and went "I WANNA SEE THIS", the truth is they probably won't get the chance unless they spend days, or even weeks carefully planning and inputting movements into the rover. And that would cut into planned research they already have lined up.

For all we know it could be six feet long or six inches. Still looks out of place to me. But then again Mars has rocks that resemble all sorts of objects, even people.

Interesting find, canucks ... will definitely link to this from the anomalies thread, if you don't mind!

In order to prevent people from having to go to the second source to find the original NASA/JPL link, I'm posting it right here (feature is located in the lower half, center'ish):

mars.jpl.nasa.gov...

We still refuse to believe that Earth is the only place that has life? After all their endeavors, that haven't debunked that truth, yet.
