Hey Guys,

Time for a long overdue makeover for my Kitty and for this incarnation I would like him to be Mohammed (PBUH).
Beard, turban the works.

I appreciate its a bit insensitive but its a way I feel we can all make a statement, maybe if depicting Mohammed (PBUH) becomes an everyday occurrence the crazies will lose interest in killing people bcoz of it.

Sorry I dont wanna make this thread political just wanted to explain my thinking.

Anyone willing to risk damnation and possible suicide bombing by helping out

Cheers

P>s Heres the original

EDIT: my pic from my library doesnt appear to be loading??
Can you guys see it?

Awsome Idea!!!

Idea...Sith Lord Mohammed. Same reasoning.

If Mohammed avatars became common place on the internet it sure would take the piss out of it.

Sorry guys I refuse to get caught up in the Islamic slagging off.

As much as I despise the fundamentalist mentality.

The huge majority of Muslims I've met at a personal level have been good and decent people, and it would be remiss, and hypocritical of me to disrespect their beliefs.

Apart from that fire away

I understand your point of view and I had to think a couple of minutes aswell before I deceided to answer a request that doesn't reflect my personal taste/opinion. For me, the service we provide in this thread is avatar creation and as long as the request is within the T&C I'm willing to set my personal opinion aside.

I think it's nobel of you to consider the feelings of other people and it defines you as a person but in my opinion the core of feeling insulted by a picture doesn't lie in the picture but the people who feel insulted by it.

It's complicated and I agree 100% with your opinion but damn it...I came here to create and have fun!!

On with the show...

I gave you both a star for your thoughts.

Why not do a little experiment and put the shoe on the other foot. Let's keep it to our imaginations for now.

Think of the most crass thing you could do to upset Christians. Perhaps nail a goat to a cross, or run around with this one.

With the caption, Pray to the Holy Clown.

How long would it take before people were upset? Why do it?

I assume we can agree that our hostile feelings should be directed at the murdering savages that are the radical elements.

Perhaps we should try to insult everyone and just have Mohammed nailed to the cross.

I don't know. The answer lies in controlling or just shooting, the radical element but then you need to include that certain Baptist Church and while you are at it, take out all of the TV Evangelists.

I think we should wait a few days before we react in haste.

Just my 2 cents or pennies worth.

And another thing.

Why now?

The Hindus, all one point whatever billion of them, did not fall to pieces, promising retribution, every time Robin said, "Holy Cow Batman!" in the original TV series.

Most people don't kill you for using the Lord's Name in vain when you hit you thumb with a hammer and scream, "Jesus Christ!"

The Buddhists did not try to kill the creators of the Monkey series as far as I know.

There seems to me, to be more too this. Why be part of the problem?

I try and respect everyone beliefs.

Very well said!

I also agree that it is wrong to intentionally hurt other peoples feeling by trying to insult them, there is no need to do that.

But this is the Avatar creation thread. By definition the avatar is a visual representation of somebody's character. Would it not be equally unethical if I am to judge what other people want to express?

Can't choose between wrong and wrong here...

No it would not.

Taking examples to the extremes to make the point ........

If you were a gunsmith, would it be ethical to create a special rifle knowing it was going to be used to assassinate single Mums just because that is how bent your client was.

Was it ethical for scientists around the world to create WMDs.

First and foremost, ethics start with you and your values.

I love taking examples to the extreme to make a point...

And I agree with your argument about the ethics and responsibility that come with creating something that is going to be used by somebody who's intentions are different from yours.

But in the case of avatar creation the question is between freedom of expression and insulting somebody. I know what I think is important but is it relevant in this case?

Anyway...I sincerly thank you for this short lesson in ethics and if we want to continue this discussion we really have to think about creating a thread in the philosophy forum because I'm affraid we're streching DTOM's patience.

Possibly, but then, discussing the ethics behind creating Avatars is a very important part of this whole thread, is it not?

Where else should it be discussed if not right here where everyone else can partake of the discussion.

I have never before seen the subject discussed here but then, I also can't think of a reason it should have been ..... until now.

Unless, the Mods have sent you a U2U.

On the other hand, there is little left to say. We have looked into it with some depth.

Now it is up to the individual to decide where their ethics lay.

It is an individual decision as long as it stays within T&Cs

Fantastic BFFT An avatar is just an avatar, shouldn't we take them less serious? It is getting so everything offends someone, soon we will be paralyzed for fear of a poo storm falling on our head. Orrrr we could just say ppfftt it, and please ourselves, at least then someone will be happy.

I like this concept. I really like the fisheye desert.. almost to the point if we could reverse it and make that the background somehow?? Then maybe add in like a small campfire looking thing or something?

I'm liking the feel of this one so far.

I'm stuck!!

I've tried everything with reversing it to a background but nothing works. And now I've completely run out of inspiration...

Maybe somebody can pick it up or maybe you can put me in the right direction because I'm drifting in the wrong direction here..

From a mojave desert with a burning tree:

to setting the entire avatar on fire:

to liquefying the desert (don't ask...I was still going with the whole contrasting idea)

Nothing is working anymore. Maybe I'll get a eureka moment but I'm going to let it rest for a second.

Hi guys
Sorry I missed the whole ethical debate earlier, I had to dash off to work. OM I totally agree with you about the freedom of speech/art. Hell I'd post porn here if I thought it made a bloody good avatar but T&C's and all that.

My refusal to work on that avatar was a personal choice influenced by my time living in Israel, I was serving in Hebron (A very dangerous place to be in uniform) and was caught up in the worst riot I've ever seen over a Mohammed related incident. The passion the average Muslim has for his religion is truly inspirational, even down to when Mrs C was teaching Muslim kids, I always admired their faith in Allah.

Would that I have the same faith in something.

Kitty looks pretty damn good by the way
Nice work my friend.

Anyway, as you say what we do here is create art, and we do a damn good job IMHO, so let's get on with it, I'll u2u you my fav avatar, as daft as it sounds after you've seen it, I can't post it because of the T&C's.

I assume we're still good

Oh wow, those are great! I absolutely love the first one as is, and the second one is almost perfect already too! For the second one, do you think you could take the tree from the first one and put it in the middle, but have the tree not on fire anymore? And maybe stick like a single leaf budding from one of the branches??

I would definitely use the first one, it's perfect as is. And the second one is coming along great! Thank you so much for working on this for me!

Now I'll just need to go back to the first page of the thread and learn how to put it on!

there is no cow too sacred for me to make fun of it. I am among the most irreverent people you will ever meet.

That said, I have always viewed ATS as my business. And have adopted as close to a business like attitude while herre as I can. Mostly because I can't have an online persona destroy my real life.

That said...nothing is too sacred for me on a personal level. ATS T&C's have limits I am all to happy to observe (because I love this place as much as I love any non-animal thing). But among family and friends....i make them groan quite a bit. LOL

I can't count the times I hear "You can't say that" in RL LOL

But here I try to be more sensitive knowing the diverse nature of the members.

Well that and the idea of a post ban LOL
