Wasn't Hitler a vegetarian? I've also heard people say Idi Amin ate his newborn son or his fetus. Maybe an urban legend? That's the same Malachi Martin who was friends with Art Bell I believe. I don't doubt Satan's in the church, but I believe it became corrupted centuries ago. IMHO no loving God would want people killed for any faith, that's man's work to me.

Father Martin is just as guilty as all the rest of them if any of this is even true. He stood by and watched or participated and said nothing until more recent history ? Give me a break....this is over the top but then again humans never cease to amaze and bewilder.

What we do know is that the Catholic Church was involved for Lord knows how many years covering up child abuse by a significant portion of priests, so much so that it is/was endemic to that institution.

How many of those priests have been brought to trial for their crimes against children? Not many it seems.

I don't know how severe their crimes have been with regards to what you are posting, but the child abuse is very real.

Considering the horror perpetrated by the Catholic Church, its support for dictators, its slaying of any competition through the ages and the endemic child abuse, I cannot see this Church as having any kind of validity as a moral teacher.

The Pope and the Catholic Church mean nothing to me other than being just one more useless, corrupt, people abusing and money making cult. This is one area where that Church has excelled.

Criticism of Pius XII is based on the Vaticans failure to condemn Nazi Germany during the war. And there is a fair argument in this, my opinion is that it was unquestionably a failure of morality for the Church to have sat back and said nothing.

But... bare in mind for a large part of the war, a lot of people didn't have a problem with Hitler. And Pius was very very concerned about Stalin.

Who knows why he failed to act, he certainly should have. But, you know, lots of other people failed to act too. British and American generals failed to act when the nature of the death camps became known, and they wouldn't divert military resources to stop the camps sooner.

Nobodies hands are clean in war.

Having a Germany ally, Italy, in charge of Rome's security (and, conversely, in a position to bring the city to the ground should they so choose) had a lot to do with it. To what means would vocally opposing the armies that were, for the most part, leaving you be serve, exactly? It wasn't like America in 1940 had any significant allegance to Catholocism, France had fallen, Brittain was nearly crippled... had Rome rebuked Hitler, then the Holocaust would have involved another 10-20+ million people, all Catholics.
