I would see figures and hear movement

If you were seeing figures, in my opinion what you were experienced was the result of a very "manevelant" entity or "bad" spirit. Whether the entity was just being an "ass" as this is entertainment for them or possibily trying to control your body to do their will for them. Unfortunately, this is the "M.O" of their demenour. Your fear that resulted in your experience is a type of 'fuel' for these beings. It is what drives them and entertains them. They are clever in what they are capable of doing to the human body, inclusive of inducing sleep paralysis. Taking over your whole body as a somewhat form of submission, so that they can instill fear to feed off.

stay calm and try to get out of body. i don't think sleep paralysis is paralysis at all, its an altered state of consciousness. don't slap a label on it like its your soul or anything, but if you just chill out and focus on getting up you will leave your body. try an arm first, you should see it lift of of your body's arm and just go from there.

you gotta ignore all that other stuff and try not to be afraid of it. i know its hard, i had sleep paralysis once and a dark figure was standing over me. i cant remember a time where i was more scared than i was then.

I also have suffered from a similar phenomena, also between the ages of about 13 and 19 years of age. As I've aged older, I have fewer and fewer bouts of sleep paralysis, but it still happens sometimes. Reading about it, it seems that the entire experience is the result of a sense of wakefullness occurs in the brain before the body has been purged of the chemical that prevents movement during dreaming. The dream-state continues as the body wakes, and lacking sensory input from the 'deactivated' senses, fills in th gaps with whatever. I used to see things made of shadow, and would feel chains grip around my body as it felt as if some THING were coming from outside, something that didn't understand doors and walls, but wanted to get IN at me.

The brain creates our sense or real perception. When engaged in sleep paralysis, you are essentially hallucinating, but since the part of teh brain causing the hallucination is the same part that makes you feel like real things are real, the feelings you have and the things you see may as well BE real.

Hell, maybe they are.

It is not your body waking up and you mind staying asleep. Its the other way around. Your body is staying asleep while your mind is staying conscious. This gives you feeling of your body being paralyzed.

And yes nothing is an illusion. Everything is real. There is no such thing as a fake hallucination. All hallucinations occur, your consciousness registers them, therefore they are real.

Everything happens from the inside out though. Thats why terrifying things happen when your afraid.

Listen to what people are saying, this is not some phenomena... This is the beginning of an OBE, either you will remain in fear and learn nothing from it, or face your fears and and learn everything you possibly can from it.

Sorry if I implied that the brain is asleep and the body is not, i meant to imply the opposite, as you are totally correct.

And really though, everything is a phenomena - perception is a phenomena. Nothing is 'real' in the way we've been told to accept and experience. We are all locked into the boxes of our minds.

And a someone who has suffered this problem for decades, it inspires the worst and most horrific of fears, and the memory of it does not go away easily.

I recommed that you seek the answers from the Creator of all existance. Ask Him who He is, what He wants for you, and why these episodes are occuring. If God is Christ, then He will reveal Himself to you in that manor, if God is something else, then you will know. You will find that many on this forum have similar experiences, but some are good, some are bad. There is not enough consistency between each individual case to paint an accurate picture, only enough to know that you arent alone. That is why you need to go directly to God with this.

We are in the midst of an unseen war between good and evil spirits. They are fighting for dominion over earth and heaven, and some of them will use us as pawns if we dont know any better. This is why I take my episodes seriously.

Gosh. A war between good and evil spirits...fighting for dominion over heaven...what BS! So the angels are just standing around while the evil spirits run amok? Too much importance is given to evil spirits. Something is evil if it's actions are evil. If it ceases to act in an evil way, it is no longer evil. That can be said of humans too, the only other creation with free will to disobey God.

Spirits as you say have a specification. There are males and females, we cannot see them unless they take on a form. Angels do not come in male and female varieties, they are something different. Humans you know. They are more numerous than humans.

I was with you on the The Creator of All Existence, but that's all. You say God is Christ, but The Messiah never once claimed that himself. Seems the Christians these days don't follow what the Messiah actually said. Is it any wonder that he will return to correct all the wrong things ascribed to him.

Back to the OP. Sleep paralysis. I'm not sure about the medical definition, because whenever it happened to me, it wasn't due to some medical factor. Mostly at night or just before waking, and many times as I'm coming out of a significant dream*. Although once I had an episode at around 11am which I shall recount...

I had been out worshiping and hadn't had much sleep for a couple of days. So I went home and decided to get a couple hours of sleep. I lay down on my bed for not even 5 minutes, then I couldn't move (I thought to myself here we go again). First I felt the bottom right corner of my bed being pressed down, then it pressed my throat restricting my breathing, so I tried had to recite something then it quickly departed. I jumped off my bed fist clenched, I was so angry, If I had have caught it, it would have got whooped :-)

*They can appear in your dreams too.

You want to decrease the occurrence, follow these simple steps:

1) Try not to to be over tired when you go to sleep, or if it does happen you won't be able to react to it.
2) Don't have pictures of people/animals all around your room
3) Have a wash before you sleep - cleanliness is next to Godliness after all (especially after sexual intercourse)
4) For men, if you wake up after a wet dream, don't go back to sleep without taking a shower

These things are only a creation of God, and God's creation can never be above Him. So nothing really too much to worry about, perhaps you may be a little scared, but ultimately God is in control.

Did anything notable happen before this started? How about when it ended? Have you had anything like that happen since? Did you report it to anyone at the time, and did anyone ever come into the room (like a family member) when this was taking place?

If you read Robert Monroe's books Journeys out of body, far journeys, and ultimate journeys, you will find that it probably is the start of OOBE as others have said. Monroe had over 30 years of experience and experimented with various techniques on himself and others. He has documented it all in the books which are fascinating. The Monroe Institute now does research and offers courses to enable others to go OOB.

In another thread, someone posted a link to a manual on being able to OOBE called "The Phase" downloadable here. I have lost the original thread url so I just post the link itself.
