Interesting. Sometimes our bodies will put us to sleep for a while so it can fight things or repair things. When I donated blood, I went to sleep for a day and a half the first time and two days the second time. I can't donate blood anymore.

I have a problem making blood and going to sleep must have allowed the body to make more blood. It scared the hell out of the wife the second time though.

Now this could have a different cause but the fix could work the same way. It could be some virus which causes the body to shut down to heal.

When my cousin of 18 months had it back in about 1960 the doc's called it "sleeping Sickness." She almost died from it and had her speech and balance permanently impaired to a significant degree. I'm not saying Wiki is wrong, but then, again, it is not always right either.

this is very strange

Locals speculate that the problem arises after a sudden rise in temperature, but again this has not been corroborated.

dailymail

I wonder what the rise in temperature would have to do with it?? the weird part is I noticed the temps rising and falling within minutes where I live but I attributed it to hot flashes...maybe it's not.

There have been some recent ground alterations around this area recently,in which vast quantities of methane have been released. There is indeed a cover up with regards to the methane releases globally...is it at all possible that methane could have this effect on people?...just a thought that crossed my mind...

Possibly this?

Just because I was thinking of the supposed mine in the area.........
Some of the symptoms fit quite nicely, others do not. Just thought I would offer this as a possibility.

Could it have something to do with reduced oxygen levels in the atmosphere? I think Kazakhstan is fairly high in altitude. I am not sure. But it could be some kind of virus as I picked up some bug a few weeks ago which made me cough constantly and sweat and now I fall asleep if I sit down somewhere. I may go to the doctor as it not getting much better in a hurry. These viruses can spread about the world quickly and while they may not kill you they can really knock you around.

The Children of the Dammed are coming.

Look for zombie-like blond children to be born there soon.

Plot

All of the inhabitants (including the animals) of the British village of Midwich suddenly fall unconscious, and anyone entering the village also loses consciousness. The military arrives and establishes a cordon. The military send in a man wearing a gas mask, but he too falls unconscious and is pulled back by a safety rope. The man awakens and reports that he experienced a cold sensation just before he passed out. The pilot of a passing civilian plane is contacted and requested to investigate. When he goes below 5,000 feet, he loses consciousness, and the plane crashes. A five-mile exclusion zone around the village is established for all aircraft. At nearly that very moment, the villagers regain consciousness, seeming otherwise unaffected. The incident is referred to as a "time-out", and no cause is determined.

About two months later, all women and girls of childbearing age who were in the affected area are discovered to be pregnant, sparking many accusations of infidelity and premarital sex. The accusations fade as the extraordinary nature of the pregnancies is discovered, with seven-month fetuses appearing after only five months. All the women give birth on the same day, and their children's unusual appearance is remarked upon: They have "unusual", "arresting" eyes, odd scalp hair construction and colour (pale blond, almost white), and unusually narrow fingernails. As they grow and develop at a rapid rate, it becomes clear that they also have a powerful telepathic bond with one another. They can tell each other anything that they see from great distances. As one learns something, so do the others.

there is some strange stuff going around I have felt weird since thanksgiving

I have fibromyalgia with Chronic Fatigue. Now normally I just need a light nap and I'm good. But something is definitely going on because I seriously am having a hard time keeping my eyes open all day during the day, from morning till when I go to sleep. Some days, all I DO is sleep off and on until about 10pm, and then wake up long enough to take my medications for bed, to go to sleep for the night. Ugh! Energy, where have you gone?

When I had a spinal surgery, I lost 5-6 pints of blood and went into a coma. They replaced 4 pints during the surgery, but they didn't anticipate that I had lost almost 6. (This was in 1985.) I went into a coma for 3 weeks. I could hear everything going on around me but I couldn't respond to anyone no matter how hard I tried. After they tested my blood they found I was severely, very severely, anemic. They gave me 2 more bags of blood and I was slowly able to come out of the coma. After that I was able to control my anemia with diet mostly, except when I was pregnant.

I've also found if I'm having surgery, most anesthetics can cause me to sleep longer, so I have to warn the anesthesiologist, so they don't panic. I also have to warn them that my blood pressure can run normal, to severely low. (80 over 50) and for me this can be normal. DO NOT panic! I used to be on beta blockers for chest pains due to severe stress.

I vaguely remember hearing of an outbreak of a virus in the past, (1920"s?) that was called sleeping sickness at the time. I believe it was called encephalitis lethargica . I wonder if this is the same virus reasserting itself? These virus's reassert themselves from time to time.

Vodka?
Something to do with whatever the hell it was that was making that gawdawful noise in that Russian city maybe?
Methane may be a good candidate .......perhaps other gasses get released simultaneously as well?

I won't take long term medicines anymore. I would rather study the properties of foods and spices and adjust my diet slightly to fix things that occur. I have less problems this way, the beta blockers caused too many cognitive problems. Simply eating a few more foods containing natural beta blockers helps to control this. I haven't had an event since I started.

I have had quite a few hypoglycemic events over the last couple of years though. The spins suck. I learned not to consume a high amount of sugar at one time, my insulin response is too big and it depletes my available sugar quickly. Eating headcheese and braunsweiner and other foods containing lots of glucosamine does the same thing.

I can live with that, now that I have figured out that moderation is cumulative and also diverse. You can eat two seemingly unrelated foods and trigger something. Actually they are related some way.

Some of my many conditions can be controlled by diet, but unfortunately, some like chronic pain and neuropathy, cannot. I'm practically a guinea pig for Big Pharma.

I actually like this theory. So far, it makes the most sense! I also agree, they need to clear out that village until this can be resolved, but who's to say this doesn't pop up elsewhere, if it hasn't already.

Oh crap, I had a dream like this where EVERYONE on earth fell asleep and died because they didn't wake up. I was the only one that didn't fall asleep...
Now I'm scared

Dude, I had they same dream back in '74

In my dream there were billions of beds and everyone
was sleeping and I was the only one that was awake.
All the beds were separated by about 5 feet, and each bed
(including mine) had a little light over it.

Except for the beds, all was pitch black darkness.

I woke up (in the dream which is also very rare) to
discover I was the only one awake. I tried shouting
to people at the beds near me but was unsuccessful
to wake them up.

They weren't dead, merely sleeping.

I considered jumping over to the next bed over where
a boy about my age was sleeping to try and shake him awake
but to make that 5 foot leap with pitch darkness above and
below, I was too scared to try.

It was one of my greatest nightmares.
