The officer, Nathanial Robinson, 23, was placed on administrative duty Friday pending the outcome of an internal investigation into whether he violated the use of force policy when he tased Victoria resident Pete Vasquez, said Chief J.J. Craig. The officer was hired after graduating from the police academy two years ago. Source

All this over a Class C Misdemeanor, the most basic offense which typically does not include a jail term, just a fine.

The crimes that qualify as Class C misdemeanors and their accompanying penalties can vary by jurisdiction. Some examples of these crimes might include disorderly conduct, simple assault or possession of a very small amount of illegal drugs. These crimes are less severe than other types of misdemeanors but are more serious than petty offenses and ordinance violations, such as speeding, minor littering, jaywalking or playing music too loudly. Like people who commit those minor offenses, people who commit misdemeanors are subject to fines. Unlike those types of crimes, however, a Class C misdemeanor also is punishable by short-term imprisonment in some jurisdictions Source

I guess he thought he was going to be severely injured from a 76 year old man who could barely walk. He can rest easy now.

Cops just love to pull their guns and tasers don't they?

Peace

Oh Jesus, an expired inspection sticker.

All that for an expired inspection sticker.

My God if you must pull someone over for such a BS thing give them a verbal warning and send them on there way.

That situation did not need to escalate to that.

My grandfather is 80 years old and can still do a somersault. He could still handle his own in a fight. So old age does not always translate into someone being feeble.

That being said, I think it's clear that this 76 year old man was no threat.

IMO this situation should of never became physical. A taser absolutely should not have been deployed.

Sad.

Wowwwwww. Way to escalate that situation there chief. Gooooood job.

And ps I don't think that old fella could barely walk. He looked pretty spritely to me, and I think he would strenuously disagree with anybody who says he can barely walk lol

Strange how the tasers never have issues working in cases like this, seems he was able to grab it and use it rather quickly.

The music choice got me as well, what ever floats your boat and I knew the song but seems like a strange choice to be listening to in your cop car.

And you guys want to tell me again, why police don't need better training?

Hey as long as it wasn't your grandpa no big deal.
Thought of everyone in this world is why this crap consistently happens.
When it happens to you it matters beyond that nobody can be bothered because it wasn't you or your loved ones.

Can always use more training. Can't really train somebody on how not to be a jackbag idiot though.

Was it just the tasering that you don't agree with or was it also how fast he went hands on after the subject pulled away?

A 23 YO punk with a badge. Tasering someone over a ticket that isn't even legal. I drive in Victoria occasionally so I guess I'll have to be careful. Doubt being careful will help though.

I think the taser "worked" in this situation because the poor old man was an easy target...

Every time you ask a question I feel like it's a loaded one lol

I don't know if it was something on my end or not but I couldn't hear any audio besides the music until after he went hands on. I don't know what the verbal exchange was prior to that, so I don't know what made the officer think he needed to go hands on (no, that's not a defense, I just plain don't have the info and don't know if it's the video or something on my end), but I really just don't understand why he felt the need to go hands on at all.

Why should a cop ride around listening to rap music. Shouldn't he be paying attention to the world.

Why should you ride around listening to anything in your car? Shouldn't you be paying attention to traffic?

Plenty of departments leave radios in their cars, and plenty of officers are capable of listening to music and doing their job.

Sorry can't resist this, but cops would know all about loaded questions
It was a little loaded tho I will admit.

And ya I couldn't hear anything either but still don't see a reason why he would go to grab him like that.

Pulling the arm away is such a natural reaction to that too, hate seeing people get punished for doing something instinctive

And I mean he can listen to music, but to listen to rap the glorifies everything he is against??

I would think cops would be trying to observe and listen to the world. I keep forgetting that police are not what they use to be.
