So, you're a normal and average citizen, just a number, with flaws and troubles like the next human etc.
However, you've been approached to take part in a sophisticated and prolonged experiment. The group conducting this experiment is made up of a team of
scientists from across the planet (in their various specialized areas). It is directly funded by a group of unnamed HNWIs in collaboration with a
secretive branch of the US military (note: NOT Darpa, something altogether more clandestine).
The specifics (without going too much into detail):
- You are to take a single pill each day.
- The drug has been tested before, but only on animals and human soldiers.
- Side effects are few but mostly includes brief bouts of paranoia and obsessiveness.
- The drug is nothing short of a miracle. It increases the propensity to exercise, leads to sky-high improvements in reasoning skills, increased
awareness, razor-sharp focus as and when needed, vastly improved circulation, increased cerebral activity etc. It's generally healthy and does not
stretch your body to breaking point.
- However tests have only been for a decade. You are one of the first lifelong test subjects.
- Your rewards are not only financial (although you would be expected to carry on life as normal to showcase improvements) but also the advantages and
benefits that the drug will ultimately bring in your life.
- However, a warning is in order. If the drug is stopped (e.g. if you cancel the experiment), not only will you revert back to normal, but any
previous flaws (e.g addictions) that existed beforehand will be greatly excacerbated. Beware.
- Note - you can never tell anybody about this - not even your spouse/loved ones, even if you end the experiment prematurely.
- As the experiment progresses, you will be given upgraded and improved versions of the drug as and when developed.
- Other regular citizens also take part but you don't know who they are and are never able to contact them. The media and general public are unaware
as it's such a secretive and closely guarded undertaking. Only "promising" individuals are approached.
The question remains - would you take part in light of the secrecy and drawbacks?
