I think it's less about that and more like people didn't vote at all.

frankly I voted green party, strait ticket.
the democratic candidate stood for nothing,
the republican candidate was a republican and therefore stood for nothing worth fighting for, even in theory.
everyone else should just vote green, pirate, social-democrat, or Libertarian as they seem to stand for something.

and ultimately what it comes down to is a difference in priorities, how people define things, what ideas or arguments are seen as valid. Total distrust of institutions that don't share our values or definitions.

You're probably right and I almost started a thread on it though but then couldn't come up with 10 things we could all agree on.
