Could be a hypnagogic hallucination. It's pretty normal to hear things just before or after falling asleep.

In order to communicate or receive communication, you need to get into that slipstream - somewhere between awake and asleep.

Relax and don't force it. It will happen again.

I wonder how old you are?

I ask, as I began to experience them when I was lates teens very early twenties and have done on and off ever since, although they happen very few and far between, the last one for me occurred back in late September early October just gone, all I heard was "Go on!"

They always make me catch myself after, like "Oh, ok, that happend!"

I can also get random faces and images pop into my mind too, ones I don't recognise and have had exploding head before now too, where you hear a bang, bu you can always distinguish these once your used to them as not having an external source, you come to realise that the sound you hear is in your head and that the ears never have any function when this happens.

It could be Exploding Head Syndrome.

exploding head syndrome (EHS) is a form of hypnagogic auditory hallucination and is a rare and relatively undocumented parasomnia event in which the subject experiences a loud bang in their head similar to a bomb exploding, a gun going off, a clash of cymbals, ringing, an earthquake, or any other form of loud, indecipherable noise that seems to originate from inside the head.

It usually happens more when falling asleep but can also occur when waking up from a deep sleep as well.

I have this issue, EHS, almost nightly. Most often I hear loud bangs, almost like a gunshot, occasionally music. I also hear quick sentences, voices, occasionally. They're quick and can be quite scary at first because of the connotations associated with hearing voices, at least it was for me. Yesterday I heard a lady say something real quick as I was falling asleep, I don't remember what she said but it woke me up and I looked around.

EHS is a really interesting phenomenon, lots of good reading about it online.

Whenever I am in a similar state, and sometimes right after I wake up, I will hear someone say my name. On some occasions I've heard other words, but they have always been single words, not sentences. Don't recall hearing beeps in those particular states, but I do hear beeps when I'm wide awake, at least every once in a while. I will hear a high-pitched noise at those times as well, and I've always assumed it was some auditory phenomenon. I think that is the best explanation for your experience, especially considering that others are corroborating the same or similar experiences.

Sorry about that little story, I thought it may cheer you up a bit but yes though often you can not listen directly even if you want too as dream's states are what they are, it may actually be something playing on your mind but it is also possible that you had what is called a clare audient expericence.

If you don't remember it I would not let it worry you too much at all.

Dream's are a necessary part of our subconsciouse mind activity and actually help to keep us sane (debatable in my case).

They are theorized to help the brain sort out the information we recieve through the day almost like a computer defrag but that is only one theory and also as long as humanity has existed people have read portent's and sign's in dream's often interpreting them to have a meaning far beyond being simply the mindscape of a sleeping person.

Personally I believe a bit of both is true, there is a physical need to sleep as our body's heal faster during sleep and our metabolic functions in other areas are slowed, our mind's may need to forget or place some memory's where they will not interfere as the past is gone, tomorrow not yet hear and we are only real in the instant of the now.

Also there are many people who have had what can only be called prophetic dream's, my mother who is not nearing 82 year's of age had recurring very vivid dream's of a wall of water rushing toward her and then there was the tsunami half a world away in the pacific, I would put it down to a dream or nightmare but my mother has had many paranormal experiences as have we her children so there is something to it, unfortunatly it was not something you could go and warn them about and more like picking up echoes of a future traumatic episode in which great psychic turbulance and grief or other strong emotion has been released like a spiritual explosion, I believe the soul is not on the same time stream as the body once we are seperated from it but can not really formulate a coherant theory on that as I lack data and only have an inkling that is all.

Sometime's I have had a dream and then forgotten almost all about it except perhaps some small detail, a few day's later I have walked somewhere and known it in that dejavou moment but then I had known something before I encounter it, sadly I have no luck with the lottery though so that is not the way it work's.

I've also had those bangs as if my bedroom door has just closed... like someone was in my room... this was usually round the same time as that 'succubus' thing.

Friday night I heard something again...

A guys voice which said 'I'm stuck in time'.

And that was it but I remember it exactly as that. 'I'm stuck in time'.

Whatever that means... Someone time-travelling and can't get back?

I am 44, had my first experience as a small child, it actually would fit more in line with the alien abduction thread but I will not get into that here, my life was pretty normal though I was a introvert for most of my youth until I started experiencing real and often horrible paranormal event's at the age of 23 in 1993, would that tie in with the same time frame for you.

Would that be an unpleasent throbbing between your leg's and other places coupled with flashed of unpleasant imagery and clairaudiant experiences?.

Like I said it was very short but this did happen once before earlier this year whilst I was sleeping but for that all I remember was a distinct (Beep) like one of those Beeps you get when on Space Radio (Like out in Space).

Going to add this event to this post since it's relevant.

About 3 weeks ago, I was laying in bed, after hearing the alarm clock go off, shut it off and layed there for a couple of minutes and then thought "well, I guess I should get up". Immediately after having that thought.. I physically HEARD a radio transmission along with the mic being keyed...

"that is confirmed..(have to add) "he is awake'"...or something similar to that! I FREAKED! I opened my eyes immediately, looked toward the window which had the blinds shut, but just a bit open to see if the police were in my backyard.

I got up, opened the blinds in the bedroom, looked outside, nada. zero, no one there. I ran to the the sliding glass door, open it up.. walked out side.. nada, zero...no one there.

I ran out the front door in hopes to see a police car or some kind of activity going on about the neighbor .. nada zero,, quiet as a mouse. Sky was clear, with a few clouds.

I'm not sure on this 'head syndrome' thing but admittedly I still havn't read about it fully.

It just seems so real...

Yes... mine also started around 23/24 and continued on up till now... 20 years later.

I suspect things will continue for rest of my life... I don't know.

Thanks for starting this discussion. Although I'd attribute it to too many satellite dishes around you - which can cause severe headaches if pointed at your house/apartment, and may "attune" you to different wavelengths. Or ... deliberate "electronic terrorism":
