China confirmed conducting a test flight of a new hypersonic missile delivery vehicle capable of delivering nuclear warheads with record breaking speeds. The move is purely scientific and not targeted at any country, said the Defense Ministry.
"Our planned scientific research tests conducted in our territory are normal," said the Beijing Defense Ministry as cited by Reuters on Wednesday. "These tests are not targeted at any country and at any specific goals."
China has reportedly conducted a third flight test for its new ultra-high speed strike vehicle – capable of travelling at up to eight times the speed of sound, in what experts suspect is part of the development of its strategic nuclear program.
The test flight, monitored by US intelligence services this week, was the third in a series of tests of the Wu-14 hypersonic glide vehicle—a high-accuracy, high speed projectile, reports the Washington Free Beacon. The first two were conducted earlier this year.

A Pentagon representative confirmed the test to the WFB, but declined to provide further comment.
“We are aware of reports regarding this test and we routinely monitor foreign defense activities,” Marine Corps Lt. Col. Jeff Pool said. “However, we don’t comment on our intelligence or assessments of foreign weapon systems.”

Indeed, the only sources reporting on this latest "test" are either Russia Today, or those parroting Russia Today… and they're all using imagery that is not of anything from China.
While we know that China is developing a hypersonic gliding missile warhead, the sources of this latest information are all suspect.

Whether the test even took place, or was successful, or it was just announced. It wouldn't be the first time a country announced a succesful test that didn't happen.

They're aware of REPORTS of the test, but won't release details. That could mean it failed miserably, or succeeded beyond anyone's wildest dreams, or anything in between.
