Wait just a minute. Does anyone care what the original executive order entails? Looks like people are caught up on this police camera thing.

This is what the headline should read:

Obama seeks more federal oversight of military equipment for police

In the wake of the police response to protests in Ferguson, Missouri last August, President Obama is using an executive order to standardize the way the federal government distributes military-style equipment to state and local law enforcement agencies, the White House announced Monday.

Don't you see? It wont matter if police have cameras when the constitution doesn't exist! "Before we beat the living crap out of you, we do need to inform you that you are being recorded for training purposes only."

The administration is also proposing a $75 million investment to purchase 50,000 body cameras for police officers. That would be part of a three-year, $263 million package to expand training for law enforcement agencies, add more resources to reform police departments, and increase the number of cities where the Justice Department (DOJ) works to improve relations between the community and law enforcement agencies.

The so called silver lining that makes this palatable. Just a turd with a bow on it, meant for us to step in.

The report had some recommendations for improving the disbursement process, suggesting that it could use more local community engagement, federal coordination and oversight. Other recommendations included revising training requirements and coming up with a community policing model.

Community policing model? Oh doesn't that sound peachy. Sounds to me like assimilate, destroy. Future ground rules for local law enforcement during a civil protest.

Here is your proof that the civil right talks are tied in with Obama's executive order.

Under the executive order, the agencies that transfer equipment will be directed to work with law enforcement and civil rights and civil liberties organizations to come up with recommendations within 120 days.

Looks like Mr. Sharpton gets the win after all. Disgusting.

One step forward, two steps back.

Good. Cameras need to be on all cops immediately with battery levels output with video and minor disciplinary action if your camera fails, directly uploaded to the cloud and with public access. A lot of cops favor this also.

Of course they do. The good cops know they have nothing to hide, and are tired of being lumped in with the people not doing their jobs correctly.

I wonder how many politicians and their families, including the Obama family, own or have stock in the companies that will manufacture, furnish, and service all these new body cameras and military equipment....affectionately called brother-in-law deals. Also, don't forget there is big dollars in diversity training companies. (I have researched that one in the past.)

Good Post.

Sounds like they're trying to Federalize all police forces.

Hmmm.

Very authoritarian.

Probably all of them.

Americans love your Capitalism, after all, and all of your leaders are Capitalist, so why shouldn't they let their money make money for them? I mean, we either live in a Capitalist society or we don't right?

Wait a tick... I thought we thought Obama was a Socialist... or a Marxist... No good Marxist owns stock.

ETA:

Could you imagine Obama owning camera companies and opening 40 new factories across the country to keep up with the demand for these cameras, directly employing thousands and thousands of people, improving the economy, bringing industry back to the States.

He could run for PRESIDENT AGAIN!

It's a conspiracy to usurp the constitution!

I think we all need to start wearing our own surveillance equipment, it is the only response.

Of course, police should be constantly surveilled but, so should politicians and all state workers for that matter.

Heck, as much as I don't want to see the feed, Al Sharpton should probably be under enhanced surveillance (and wear an ankle bracelet as well). How many of us would be hob-knobbing with the executive while under a multi million dollar tax evasion investigation?

I do feel for those cops on one hand, on the other I can't help but hold them responsible for their silence.

For once I don't give a # who profits off the manufacturing of the cameras... get them on the cops, now.

ATS friends, you may think I'm over thinking Obama's actions, but I have researched and researched the background, the wording, the purposes and objectives, the references to programs that went before, and I believe 100% this entire thing is geared toward the weakening of the Second Amendment in order to fulfill the broader objectives of the UN Arms Trade Treaty, especially as it pertains to conventional and small arms.

Obama and the progressive left is nudging us toward what will eventually be declared as Militias. He and/or his minions will eventually challenge the wording and meaning of the Second Amendment as it pertains to the individual's right to keep and bear arms. I am convinced of it.

Will the cameras be manufactured here? Or will they be outsourced? Or, will mostly illegals be manufacturing them? Can't let millions of workers just collect gov benefits without actually contributing....

queenofswords: He's not doing this to benefit the people, pres's never do that. As usual, there's an agenda behind this. I didn't trust Bush, the dope before him and the dope before him. This dope's not different, he's continued to do detrimental things towards the country, undermines the economy, except now the media protects, social media still views him as Jesus, if you say something you're racist or stupid.

Always an agenda, always following orders. That's a typical pres.

I asked for proof that Sharpton was directly involved with the Executive Order talks...

Not proof that he would have future involvement with Law Enforcement...

Yup. I'm not sure what you are getting at here. Are you agreeing with me? Disagreeing? It's hard to tell if you even know what I'm saying here.

Ending the war on drugs would end all of this mess without extra money being spent.
Cameras need cloud streaming by third party or they are worthless.

Obama does something genuinely great...

Still gets bashed for it...

As the old saying goes, there is no pleasing some people...

And the thing the people up in arms don't realize is...if Congress worked WITH Obama instead of stonewalling him at every turn (even for good ideas), he wouldn't be writing executive orders. If I recall correctly, past presidents have signed more EO's than Obama.

Not a bad guess.

If only some people here could read between the lines.

From the same link:

Mr. Obama is drafting another executive order that would create a Task Force on 21st Century policing.

21st century policing? If you can't figure out what that means, just ask Al Sharpton. He'll be happy to explain the proper way to approach a dangerous black male. You don't!

And another,

President Obama on Monday will announce executive action to bolster oversight of the rapid militarization of local police departments and propose additional spending on body cameras for officers.

Obama, hosting a trio of meetings at the White House on Monday devoted to the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown, will instruct his staff to draft an executive order improving safeguards of a federal government program that allows local police departments to claim unused military weapons, senior administration officials said.

Sounds to me like a hidden agenda.

One of the few jobs the Federal government actually IS supposed to have, is the job to protect citizens from constitutional abuses by local authorities. Body cameras are an excellent idea, and I'm surprised to see him supporting this to be honest. I fear it's going to be about image and not about substance, though. Unless body cams are utilized universally and with dire consequences for the officer if their cam "malfunctions" it won't do a lot of good.

I'm not going to bash Obama on this unless I see him execute it poorly, and I'm very disappointed at the reaction of people here. Stop letting your hatred of Obama cloud your judgement. This and net neutrality are needed badly, throwing away something good because a person you don't like brought it up is as near to insanity as you can get without seeing a shrink.
