If you dont grasp the complexities of fine dining compared to fast food then I am sorry. Its really not that hard to get.

If you ordered a fine wine I would have to serve that crap like a professional....so it is not ruined and so you enjoy it. I wouldnt throw it down like coca-cola.

If you ordered a fish I had to de-bone table side I would do it slowly and carefully so as to not mess up the food...that would be extra service.

If you make me run 20 times back and forth from the bar to your table while I am swamped then that is more service.

MORE FOOD AND DRINKS THEN MORE SERVICE...unless you are refilling your own glass and getting your own dishes.

Maybe you are talking about eating at a fast food type place like a BAR that serves FOOD....I dont know where you go out but if you have ever been to varying degrees nice places you would already know whats different.

well a rum and coke and a cocktail usually cost about the same so by your tip logic, no, i wouldnt pay more..
its a percentage of the bill remember?

not my problem the restaurant makes the wait staff make the drinks....

so how do you want it?
you want tips based on actual work/service done or do you want them based on a percentage of the bill?

must really chap your ass when you work happy hour and the drinks are half price....that really cuts into your tips...do you take that up with the owner or is that a customer problem too?

You eat at bars and fast food places. I am not a snob but I know how to hang.

I guess I am not such a fool to only go where my social caste is allowed.

I could sit with the president himself and carry myself properly. I could also go into the south Bronx and carry myself.

BUT not everyone is open. They are what they are and always will be.

I would hate to see where you take your wife or mother on special days.

Edit: And I say that as someone formerly of the hospitality industry. As such, TIP YOUR HOUSEKEEPERS. Maids/housekeepers don't make bank to begin with, and if you're a slob, it slows us down and we don't make more bank polishing your room back up.

I work in a nice hotel and the Housekeepers have the hardest, dirtiest and least paid job on the property. Their work is backbreaking and beyond gross. If you only knew the stuff they had to clean you would never stay in a hotel again. Sad part is 80% of the time they NEVER get tips. So please, always tip the Housekeeping staff.

If I did run a business I would have employed the right people and if they didn't do it right I'd sack them !

I dont care if its happy hour or not. I am HAPPY to do my job hence why I dedicated my life to it.

You also have never bar tended. You think there is a magic button we press for mixed drinks and cocktails?

You do realize that PEOPLE GO TO SCHOOL for this. If it was that easy as a rum and coke we would save ourselves the tuition.

I make REALLY good money. I am also a REALLY good server. I am now management and own my own businesses I am that good. That took time effort and money to get to.

And for the record, I do love my job. I have been doing it since I started working and will until I die because not every day is the same, people are generally great, and you get to share important moments with people and make them that much more special. You also meet the world.

Some days are terrible but like anything else, if you love it even they are good somehow.
