What are you talking about?

Saudi Arabia is a well known Wahabi country.
Not Sunni.

You're in denial because you're wrong again.

I'd say it's Middle Eastern culture rather than Islamic.

I use Muslim extremist loosely in the sense that they may be Islamic, but it's not Islam that teaches this.

It also occurs in Judaism...
Among the Ultra Orthodox if I'm not mistaken.

& That's a human choice imo.

Because of you Mr. Speirs and others, I have looked at my thoughts and beliefs of Islam and Muslims.

That's appreciated.

If one person is willing to look deeper on ATS I'm happy.
Many are too closed off to do so.

If men in these countries had an ounce of self control, they could get rid of all these ridiculous laws. There. Case closed.

It seems to me that men everywhere don't want to learn "self control" that is why they look at porn and will eat ground animal horns and take viagra regardless of what it does to them.

You say: "How can we accept having allies with such backward thinking...."
Because they formerly had a stranglehold on oil and so we were their good buddies, and because they are ruled by a small minority without being a democratic nation. And as we busy ourselves with small things like marriage rights to keep the common mind off of the more pressing problems, so they find ways to monkey with their folkways to do the impossible task of keeping their common herd lock into old belief habits.

The Saudis are a sect of Islam.

We all know called Wahabism or Salafi.
What makes the Saudis bad is not necessarily their twisted, ethnocentric theology per se, but it’s merging their religious clan with temporal power—always dangerous.

This is Gog & Magog meets Dajjal that’s why the Gog & Magog and Dajjal of Islam (ISIS and Al Qaeda) has come from Saudi Arabian Salafi Islam.

Of course this is a little Dajjal the big Dajjal is none other than the western civilization and THEIR theology

Give any woman in Saudi Arabia, that wants one, a plane ticket to Austin. They can let their boobs flap in the breeze without getting a second glance.

I understand what you mean by.."How can we have allies with such backward thinking". You are right. Where your wrong is believing that we judge our allies on their social, democratic merits. 15 of the high-jackers on 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia. Usama bin Laden was Saudi, and the money to fund terrorism then & now comes from wealthy Saudi families who want to exert their radicalism outward. That said you can see how banning pretty women from showing their eyes will change relationships we have with them.

Our allies are based on positions & proximity to our non-allies. Look at Alaska for example. What piece of land is a few miles right across the sea from Alaska? Russia. That's the reason we acquired Alaska. Not because we loved it's beautiful mountains. lol Buffer zones between enemies, oil rich countries willing to play ball, & global reach are some of the things weighed when choosing an allies. Not social norms..

I dunno from what I've read wearing a burka or whatever in SA is a hella lot better than other Islamic countries that practice FGM. Just sayin.

Personally to me I think all organized religions are cults and used as excuses for atrocities in the name of whatever god it happens to be. Some may be more "modern" but all are indoctrination and fear based, and almost all religions at some point have committed atrocities in the name of their god.

I'll stick to just trying to be the best person I can be without threat of hellfire and damnation or beheading or stoning, because it is the right thing to do and I don't need some book or preacher or religious leader to tell me so.

I don't care what religion they are the way "humans" act sometimes makes me want a front row seat to an extinction level event, because frankly most of the people in the world disgust me. It's either about money, power, sex, control, one upmanship(racism or bigotry) or all of the above or others I didn't think of atm. I'll never understand humans.... never.

Lil

P.S. Yes I know... I'm a giant hypocrite.. But I'd rather be a hypocrite on the side of "why can't people stop hating "ideas" and just hate on ACTIONS" .Rather than saying my god is better than yours and gives me permission to do evil sh** because it's in the *insert religious book here* or we made it up and we're the boss of you and we say so." camp. Evil is evil. Good=do no harm, evil=intentionally causeing harm. It's pretty simple.

This is what happens when you let fundamentalists take control. America will be there in about another century at the rate we're going.

That nation is just ridiculous and I'm not surprised they would want such a ban. Those poor women. Why are Saudi men so afraid of them?

Because they're pretty. I thought all men were afraid of pretty women.

Unfortunately not many western countries have a real choice at the moment whom their middle east allies are . Our reliance on oil makes it very easy for the house of Saud to remain in control and enforce these religious ideals . Perhaps people should make their voices heard and walk to work .

Never happen .

I have read the Bible. I have read the Quaran.
I have read many other "Holy Books."
Screw them all. I am not an atheist. They are as religious as the Pope.
I am.

I've told this before, but worth a repeat here. I was working at a Farmer's Market, just hanging out in a booth, and saw a woman dressed head to toe in a burka. I was just looking at that when she happened to see me looking at her, and she hurriedly pulled the burka down a bit so it covered a half inch more of her forehead. At that moment I grasped the insanity of this oppression, especially if it is a state law and not a personal choice.

The reason you often hear that oppressed women state that "it is what they are choosing" or that it is "what they believe" can best be explained by two things.
One is the saying "better the devil you know" sums it up. Most have no knowledge of alternatives and if they have always lived like this, freedom can look daunting and wrong, sad but true.

The other is "Stockholm syndrome". Humans adapt to extreme pain from mistreatment by accepting it or even liking it. It is a defence mechanism to keep us sane in insane conditions. Even if we 'rescued' all Saudi women, a lot of them would hate us for it. Strange and sad but also true.

I hope one day that country is going to evolve.

Self control is something men in oil rich countries do not have.

They will never have it as long as their culture and religion tell them that men are entitled to whatever they want from women, and that women are impure and stupid and must be treated like little children at all times.

Muslim men in Arab countries are not raised in childhood to have one ounce of self control or empathy for anyone who is not a male muslim.

They should also forbid women to walk outside on windy days
because it shows too much silhouette under all those clothes they wear.

Earlier in the day, allegedly, a new law in Saudi Arabia, forcing women to wear full veils, if their eyes are considered too "tempting". It alleged, among other things, the British Metro and Omni was one of many news media erroneously told the news on. But Metro's Viral Inspector reveals now that the news is false. It has been circulating in various media since 2011, writes Viral Browser. The original source of the incorrect information is reported to have been an article on bikyamasr.com. There are now a Russian blog titled "Business World", but through service Internet Archive, the old article from November 16, 2011 read.

Omni regret inaccurate publishing

"Omni regret the erroneous publication. There, burst in our research. Thanks Viral reviewer who spent clarity and made us aware of the inaccuracies in the news scattered in Omni and other media around the world. "
