Because of Obama's Pacific pivot. Australia is where we are sending more warships.

Australia would get squashed like a bug, seriously our best defense is to shut our mouth ( looking at you Abbot ) and let the big boys play that game.

Fact is our Country is too sparse and too big for any Country to actually invade and hold for any definite period of time, a couple of droughts, heatwaves and a few snakes would see most off in a few years.

Feel the same way about Canada when Harper is yapping about Putin.

There seems to be a Russian delegation visiting Australia, I didn't get all the video though as it crashed.
Some of the rest, "The prime minister's office says this is nothing unusual" It's been done before it seems.

Aye it is not uncommon for a few USSR ships to be in the vicinity of wherever the dear leader is visiting. Although what we make of them sending a tug I am not sure. I guess that is all they have?

USSR? your about a decade out there.
to be fair 4 ships is about all they can afford to crew never mind fuel and maintain

Now you are out of touch, you are talking about USSR, not today's Russia. It's a different ballgame. Despite the so-called sanctions, there is still big trade going on with the West never mind elsewhere, (does that not tell you something?) at the home continent and abroad. Our media just feed on our political rhetoric.

Surely the Aussies have anti ship missiles and the aircraft or subs to deliver them......not a big deal....those Russians boats sink just like any other ones do....
Four ship fleet, four exocets or cruise missiles and its a done deal....Putins playing a weak hand there......

I can help but think the Jesuit trained Tony Abbott and the Russian freemason are playing the world stage as they do. They have a role to play and some satan worshiping to do before dinner 🙏

Imagine if China or North Korea were to secretly use Submarine to sink these ships. Russia would blame US and Australia. Risky risky games Pukin is playing

That news source is possibly the worst in the country when it comes to biased reporting, sensationalism, & half-truths.

(prime minister) Tony Abott has been acting like a complete tosser lately...
Crying "We have proof Russia was behind the shooting down of MH17" yet unwilling to provide that proof...
Threatening to 'shirtfront' Putin & 'hold him to account' at the APEC meeting....

Abott is as bad as Obama, pointing the finger at Putin to distract the masses from what they themselves are/not doing.

Maybe Russia is hoping the Aussies will be able to clean the rust and mothballs off the ships?

Opposition leader Bill says it's just a silly stunt by Pootin. I agree it's pretty pointless just a show for strong man Pootin for Tony Abbort. With the G20 meeting in Brisbane a lot of world leaders are in town and maybe Pootin feels a bit insecure and paranoid.

I'd invite the Ruskies into Brisbane harbour to see the best country in the world so they can get jealous.

The RAAF could buzz them with 4 to 6 F/A-18 Hornets with Harpoon anti-ship missiles just to say hello. lol.

Considering Russia failed in it's invasion of Afghanistan and was kicked out and gave up I doubt Australia is in much danger of a Ruskie invasion. Plus our allies the UK, NZ and US might take an interest in it.

Honestly I doubt the Aussies would need US support to deal with the Russian Navy.

But it reminds me of the Ron White joke .... I don't know how many of those nations it would take to whip the Russian Navy .. but I know how many we would use.
