I see.
So, if someone buys a print from them you would get something? That's cool.

Looking at the Gigapan panorama I think that's the result of using photos from several days to make the panorama.

As we can see from the link posted by Phage , on sol 72 there were several photos with part of the rover visible (and understandably out of focus, as they are much closer than the background), but the person that made the panorama used other photos from other sols that show part of the area that was not captured on sol 72, so those photos replaced part of the photos with the out of focus rover parts, but, apparently, there are not enough photos to replace all of those photos, so some photos used in the panorama still have the out of focus rover parts visible.

I'm sure anyone that makes their own panoramas has seen this happen.

Well that's quite clearly part of Curiosity.

Someone has cut whatever part of the rover that is out, shrunk it, and pasted it back in..

What the hell motivates people to pull this kind of bollocks.

ETA that i don't mean you OP, i mean the author of the edited image.

No. It wasn't cut out of images and pasted back in. At least not exactly.

The image in the OP is a gigapan mosaic created of many individual images (over 100 images). Some of those images are cropped and allowed to overlap each other in order to stitch together the mosaic. Some of those images include the rover in the foreground (and out of focus due to being close to the camera), so when the images of the martian surface are cropped and are allowed to overlap, pieces of the Rover are included.

As originally pointed out by Phage on the previous page, here is a link to some of those images from Sol 72 (the images used for the mosaic are from Sols 67-75):

mars.jpl.nasa.gov...

So I can't be sure, but I don't think the original creator of that gigapan had a malicious intent to fool people.
