Weather News

Michio Kaku joins CBS This Morning to warn 250 million Americans that “we are in the bullseye” and by midweek, “all hell’s going to break loose” as America prepares to be pummeled by something sounding almost Biblical, ‘BomboGenesis’. Kaku warns that air, train and vehicle traffic could be paralyzed next week, and schedules disrupted: “A massive disruption that will peak around November 13th to November 15th” Kaku informs us, before telling us that we could feel the ‘ripple effects’ throughout November.

I think this Michio Kaku is nuts. Making a mountain out of a molehill. Yeah, it's gonna be freakin cold. I live in Wisconsin. This is pretty normal for us. Nothing to get my panties in a wad over. Whatever.

The man has spoken and I'm listening. I love this guy. I'm not going to fall hook line and sinker for what he stated but I'll def be on the look out.

So... it's going to snow. Is that what you're saying? Oh that Michio - he's so geeky and goofy and don't forget smart! And his white hair looks terrific.

Whats not to love about a man selling out his dignity and pride for money and fame. Maybe he could travel around with some acrobatic monkeys and a bear riding a bicycle it would help him gain so more attention.

Wasn't there an 'accidental' emergency alert for November 9th?

It's been low of 55, high 75 in Socal.

I often worry about how these polar vortexes will effect the bird migrations?
The magnolia warblers usually come back north by early early May.
Will they compensate by flying further south?

It still looks like temps in Chicagoland will be well above -30, with less than 20" of snow falling on any given day. In other words, pretty much business as usual.

Seems more like doom porn, a way to make people freak out, go to store and spend money on goods, fill up on gas for Generators and vehicles. What a good way to help the economy, and increase debt spending. LOL. Dont get me wrong, I do feel there is a need to be ready for any kind of emergency, but the majority are not and will go and spend, especially the elderly, who live by the weather man

I've never heard Michio make such a statement like this. That's what I find a bit odd. Well we have a few days to tell if he was just doom porning or not, maybe it could have something to do with a crippling storm from the coming polar vortex. I really hope he is wrong cause I'm on "weather rotation "the next 2 weeks at work, meaning I have to be there no matter what!

We are getting a storm later in the week here in south=eastern Washington state. The first I heard about it was this thread on ATS.

Oh so it's gonna be colder for a week?

Look up bombogensis and you will see it is pretty common. They typically happen with nor'easters .
Just like the big terrifying polar vortex, people hear the word and freak out, even though the polar vortex is pretty much a constant thing during winter. Bombogenisis is just the latest scary word to make you freak out

There was a state wide emergency alert test here in NY that scared the pants off my daughter

Oh, noes!! Dooom, we're getting maybe 4" of snow this weekend. And it's cold.

This is normal winter weather, and Weatherbell pretty much had it nailed.

My wife is a huge doom porner, me not so much... She takes everything micheo says at face value. Let me put it into layman terms so everyone can understand. We're going to get snow! Like we always have been doing!

I told my wife that a whaite-haired Japanese scientist told me the world was going to end.

"You read this on the internet?" She said.

"Yes, but he's got white hair!", I said.

She still wouldn't let me kill the neighbors pets for food or get a mohawk and wear leather chaps for the apocalypse. Women just don't get it!

Maybe your bunny could get a Mohawk and leather chaps? Then it at least would be Apocalypse ready.

And you're in Southern California. Even before our current interglacial, the West Coast enjoyed a comparably better climate than the Eastern portion of the US. The primary reason why this occurs is because of a very large geographical feature that tends to act as a funnel aka The Rockies.

Here's a vegetation map from 13 kya: www.esd.ornl.gov...

As you can see, the West Coast was temperate woodland while the East at the same longitude was taiga, basically a boreal forest. You'd find boreal forests in Canada and Alaska these days. That difference between temperate and cold show pretty clearly that, even during an Ice Age, the Rockies and the flow of the weather provided relative shelter from even an actual ice age on the West Coast. The Rockies, btw, would be approximately running along that green splotch in the midst of the "temperate semi-desert" portion of the 13kya map as you can see in the map below.
