By Leo Igwe a Nigerian human rights advocate and humanist.

As the governments of West Africa struggle to contain the spread of the Ebola virus, I am wondering where all the men and women of God who claim they can heal the sick and who conduct faith healing sessions in countries across the region are? Where are all the continent’s miracle workers now that people desperately need healing; where are the anointed men and women of God now governments urgently need to contain the spread of Ebola?

What more could I add? Those who have read my posts know I am decidedly Christian in my outlook but I can't stand the BS that goes on in the name of my lord and savior. So why aren't these faith healers going to save the world with their "gift"? Wouldnt that make the whole world have to listen to their message?

i have reason to believe in people with these abilities.
i felt it on my own skin, so to speak.
as to why they don't go there and help...who knows? maybe their abilities have some kinds of limits, maybe the person being healed needs to fit certain requirements in terms of their faith?
and, from what i've been able to understand, people that ave these abilities do not like, or want advertisement.
YOU have to look for them, why is that, i don't really know.

Great question. Why isn't Benny Hinn over there swinging his jacket?

Very good point! I suppose they have no money, so he is not interested in "saving" them!

Doing this would surely cure them of Ebola!

Because it doesn't work.
"Faith Healers" are nothing but a charlatans, taking money from foolish, desperate people. Some may see some improvement in their condition, but it's mind over matter that does it, not some hack with 'powers". You can get the same results with a placebo. It's even called The Placebo Effect. These scum have been caught sending their own people in to crowds to fake being sick or lame, then LO!! The Lorduh haaas heeeaaayuled yuh!!

I'd venture to say dead, dying, or smarter than that.

Sorry but its not just faith healers. Organized religion is a control trip. Prayer is an excuse not to actually have to help do anything.

The reason droves of christians aren't there praying for deliverance is because they are to busy helping themselves and the church.

Where are the believers? According to the bible...
Mark 16

15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Interesting how it says to preach to every creature. I never noticed that before.

Yeah, I guess that means aliens, animals, and insects can be saved and healed to?

Who are these faith healers you speak of? I believe God can work miracles but I don't believe there are people who can heal on command in the name of the Lord. I doubt many of the 2 billion Christians on the planet do.

The idea behind faith healing is that our bodies were created to be naturally self healing, but at some point in the past humans lost this ability. A healer doesn't heal, what they actually do is kick start the bodies self healing mechanism. The process is similar to jump starting a car that has a flat battery.

If the healer is dealing with someone who has 100% belief in the process it is possible to cure the incurable, (apparently, although i have not seen it done). If the subject doesn't have 100% belief, they may be helped rather than cured. eg I have been able to cure headaches, but not the underlying problem that causes them.

So in this situation, providing healers for all those infected could in theory push up the rates of survival, but it would have no impact on the numbers of infected people, or it could increase the amount of people infected, dueto large numbers of healers being in close contact with the virus. As most healers accept the fact that they can't cure everything on every occasion, they would feel an element of doubt concerning their abilities, therefore many of them wouldn't survive.

I hope I have explained this clearly enough,

According to the verses I posted above, all believers can. Unless of course, the bible is fallible. Oh noes! Say it isn't so!

i have to disagree with you on that, but of course, believe what you wish, maybe there are rules about these things we just don't know, and maybe it's all fake.
no matter what, i'd say send more doctors and play it safe

They don't have a gift they just take advantage of people and their money. They have the gift of fraud.

The first test to determine if something is real is when you have to "believe" to prove its existence. No one goes around saying they believe in the sun, planets, stars, gravity etc. Believe is usually associated with things like "mermaids, bigfoot, aliens, elves, faith healing etc, biblical god etc..go figure...

What you are proposing is clearly illness of the mind. The symptoms or ailment may not even have existed in reality but a condition of the person's mind. No amount of faith healing can heal a severed limb or gunshot wounds or any physical damage to the body...therefore it does NOT exists.

I am a newbi at Reiki myself. Intention->manifestation that push energy into a body that can give placebo effects and decrease suffering in a person and make people unafraid even in life threatening situations.

People who are sensitive feel the effects of energy manipulation more in their bodies and are probably more effective of self healing.

On my level of skill it gives the bliss only in me and cannot for instance fix a skin rash on my own body so I do not feel very useful on handling Ebola.
.

OP

I agree that the people who take money for healing should walk up to the plate and prove themselves or be truth full on the limitations of their abilities.

But I am also gonna try to speak for those who will not reveal themselves (the hermited ones) since I can understand a bit of why they do not intervene. You seem to want the really advanced spiritual people to give you the perfect complement to science and intervene on a higher level while at the same time giving up their privacy and become the freak show for all humanity always being haunted by people to create miracles for them.

Even on my low level of skill. Humanity collectively cannot even now handle people going around feeling the energy flow and playing around and laughing at things that cannot be seen but felt. You are called crazy and are having hallucinations so even those who only feel the energy have to keep a straight face and act like they do not feel the bliss even when they feel the energy flowing thru their bodies.

First get acceptance that Kundalini awareness is a real thing and give people the chance to evolve themselves to become advanced instead of making them feel disconnected from the collective who are not aware and because of it go into hermit mode. With honey we would attract more help than with the current "you have to prove yourself to us" when even we will not ourselves do the work to achieve Kundalini awareness and learn the basics in Reiki or other intention->manifestation tools.

To quote Friedrich Nietzsche

“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.”

May I refer you to Samaritan's Purse?

Writebol and Dr. Brantly (the same one who keeps donating his blood to anyone in the US with Ebola, I might add) were/are both members of this faith organization who have been on the ground in this epidemic.
