And R0 refers to the average number of people infected per case, regardless of mode of transmission and is a valid factor to use as a comparison.
For the 1995 DRC epidemic, the community component of R0 accounted for 0·5 (95% CI 0·4–1·9), the hospitalization component for 0·4 (95% CI 0·0–2·2) and the burial component for 1·8 (95% CI 0·0–2·3).
For each epidemic, we quantified transmission in different settings (illness in the community, hospitalization, and traditional burial) and simulated various epidemic scenarios to explore the impact of control interventions on a potential epidemic. A key parameter was the rapid institution of control measures. For both epidemic profiles identified, increasing hospitalization rate reduced the predicted epidemic size.
Luck doesn't have much to do with it.
I will say that it appears that Dallas and Akron seem to have gotten lucky, now we just watch with New York.

Since we're way way beyond the 21 day incubation period for cases stemming from Duncan this really isn't a concern. a reply to: texasgirl

There have been no tertiary cases stemming from the secondary cases. Dallas can be considered a closed book. The boyfriend's are clear, the people in Ohio are clear, the people on the cruise ship are clear.......etc. etc. etc.
No secondary cases from Craig Spencer in NY either.

I clearly said in my op that my point was that there was no reason to expect a pandemic because it had hardly spread. You also seem to think that I am from the US which is wrong too.
Not only did me and mines not get it, basically EVERYBODY didn't get it outside of Africa, except 5 confirmed cases.
