A DERBYSHIRE man who allegedly threatened an army cadet selling poppies in Belper has been charged with a public order offence.

Adelso Saws, of Hillcrest Drive, Kilburn was charged with using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoking violence.

The youngster, aged between 15 and 18, was among a number of cadets selling the commemorative poppies in King Street, Belper, on Saturday.

At around 11.20am a man allegedly shouted from a car window that he would be “shot by the Taliban”.

Saws, who is 34-years-old, is due to appear before magistrates in Chesterfield this morning.

POPPY ABUSE: Adelso Saws charged after cadet selling poppies is told he will be "shot by Taliban"

Well, I'm glad the police have charged the man as for several years now people have been using Remembrance Day and the associated Poppy Appeal to send political messages, usually (although I am not sure in this case) by hardline Islamist types.

There are previous examples of such behaviour which have resulted in convictions and quite right too - there is a time and a place for political campaigning and it's not on Remembrance day or against charity workers or children.

In this case, the man concerned - Adelso Saws - threatened a 13 year odl boy with "being shot by the Taliban".

After some digging, it does appear this fellow has form for being a bit of a nasty piece of work. He was jailed in 2004 for Armed Robbery.

What a berk.

However unpleasant to the young man selling poppies (and maybe he just brushed it off and called the cops to screw the twat), it's just local news.

"Idiot shouts stuff from car window"

Seeing as he's possibly not been out of prison so long (after a ten year sentence) i suspect he will confined again soon.

Well, yes, it might be "local news", but it's a symptom of wider disrespect in my opinion, from the Poppy burners of a few years back, to the marches chanting "death to the UK/soldiers/Police" and now calling for children to be shot for selling poppies.

And anyhoo, I can find a few more examples of "local news" on the ATS News forum from across the pond. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, unless US/Canadian "local news" is more newsworthy for some reason?

The motivation for this would seem to me to be quite different from organisations/individuals opposed to military action in the ME or Afghanistan etc - Saws is obviously an idiot, and certainly in the past a violent one at that but what he actually did is little different from an Inbetweener shouting "fire wankers" from a moving car or abusing an opposing footie fan in the same way.

Was he motivated by extremism or religion? His name doesn't sound very Islamic, and neither does his brother Brent's. I'd go for an idiot doing what he does best.

If he had half a brain he'd have said IS anyhoo, The Taliban are like so 2013.

Hehe, yes, the Taliban aren't the cover girls for Islamist monthly any more, are they?

And I agree, I don't think this was religiously motivated - he has a brother called Brent, so neither sounds very "Islamic" - but as I said, it's a symptom of a wider disrespect. Whatever people's feelings about Military intervention overseas, Remembrance Day shouldn't be brought into that as it's not about glorifying war, or celebrating conquests, but remembering the dead who gave their lives in defence of the nation which includes many Commonwealth soldiers, many of which weren't even British.

HE should be shot out of a cannon or preferrably strapped to the front of one and made an example of, good old fashioned method but it worked very well.

Woah woah woah. I think he was just trying to be a smart ass. It's a well known fact that the Taliban actually prohibited poppy farming and now that they are gone, Afghanistan is the worlds largest producer.

I'm not sure at all what's going on here but he probably just thought he was being witty.

How long before someone is shot, run over, Stabbed, clevered for selling Poppies.
Maybe the guy wasn't so far off the mark.?

Well, when they were in charge of Afghan, they did, but as soon as they were toppled, they quickly turned to Poppy production to fund their activities, so they're not as against it as they at first appeared.

That's because "they" (the common Taliban fighter) don't have to worry about some religious fanatic college kids threatening their life anymore.

I actually read a bit of a bio about a Taliban fighter. Those poor people had no idea what was going on. I wish I can remember the book now.

Lol I noticed you guys across the pond are really worked up about these issues sometimes. I have no idea how it is over there so I won't judge. Frankly I find it intriguing. I guess I'm supposed to hate them too? Idk

I was glad to find out that no poppies were injured in this story.
Are we really gonna keep fighting over flowers?

I do not hate them, they are a threat to me and my children and this is my country so do I go with the sheep and lie down then let them take all I have or do I stand up and try to wake the other sheep up before it is too late and they are in the abbatoir.

I have no problem at all with a persons race, My fathers aunt's married black american GI's during the war and moved stateside after it was over, My Fathers mother was of maori extraction, her uncles and her sisters uncles were maori warriors.

My mothers maternal ancestor was jewish though I am mainly ethnic British with ancestors who serves in all branches of our armed forces and relatives in all branches killed in both world wars, I can trace my anglo saxon heritage to well before the norman conquest so well over a thousand years and my celtic british ancestry, including a very strong scots contingent, is of course from at least the bronze age if not even older.

I am in short a typical Brit from the nation who said "A girl in every port" which you yanks copied but then we are related anyway as nations and of course remember the Romans were here for about 400 years, there empire was very cosmopolitan and there people from all over the Roman empire (From africa and asia minor to eastern europe) made there cotribution to the British gene pool, (with the exception of some villages and poor community we are perhaps the least inbred nation in Europe and the most geneticaly dynamic).

I do however hate a religion founded by a liar who married a six year old child, I do hate those who come into my country to destroy it believing that if I do not convert to there false religion they have to strike my head from my body, or to take my country, land and property for themselves with every intention of displacing and wiping us out.

You know both my Celtic and my Maori ancestry goes back to Tribalism and warrior nations so something very primal in me is burning with rage toward this growing threat and I want to destroy it once and for all like we should have long ago for the sake of our children, not for some false god, false prophet or false paradise.

I see a difference between 'Taliban will shoot you' and 'I'll will shoot you'. A tasteless act but breaking a law?

if all it was

At around 11.20am a man allegedly shouted from a car window that he would be “shot by the Taliban”.

seems overboard.
