Ok, this is definitely a USO. No one would be this tight lipped and non descript otherwise.

Why do you think it would be USO who are instigating this event?

Do they have other roles than to be supportive to Our troops?

USO or Unidentified Submerged Object......usually connected to, but not necessarily indicitive of, alien space craft.

Yes, that is what it is for now.

Assuming it is even unidentified.

Lets say that it wasnt part of this weeks Dutch/Swedish naval exercise.

A few things stand out then.

The witness, which is describe by the military spokespeople as "very credible". Right... That either means someone *knew* what they where looking at (such as military personel on leave or something) OR they got convincing video evidence (smartphones everywhere) and again, knew what they where looking at. The fact that there even is a response at all, indicate someone that knew who to contact as well.

Secondly, the Swedish military isnt exactly like the US military. They arent so numerous they send half a fleet out to check on what could be a pack of geese in the water. Hell, this years budget is probably wasted on this effort. So someone in command clearly thought this warranted an unprecedented response in modern times (its been what, like 20+ years since we had any similar activity?). That must mean solid evidence, otherwise they'd just send a boat out and lazily check it out with sonar, knowing full well they wouldnt find crap.

Thirdly, the military spokespeople say man made. They rule out anything else. Meaning, they know what it is based on the witness description/presented evidence.

So my only conclusion is that either a trusted person by the military saw a submarine tower (and knew instantly it was a submarine) OR someone got good video/photos of a submarine.

If this is just because some random person saw "something unidentified" out in the water, the response is absolutely ridiculous and a waste of money.

They are not saying much about the progress. It has been more than 24 hours since the claimed Sub was reported.

This is what i think:

- Russia might be putting out underwater Objects of some kind or replacing old Objects that are outdated. Russia used to do that in the 70s and 80s. And could be doing this again.

- This could be a sub that have been monitoring the exrcise they just had, and the sub made a detour closer to shore. To test the alertness of Sweden. The sub is probably long gone by now if there was a sub.

It is probably not a bad idea to go in after a bigger exercise. People would be used to militiary Activity, and there would be a lesser chanse People would react.

- Or it could be just political propaganda to boost the military buget.

Thgis is a Google translation from abc News in Norway. The link to the Source dosent work.

Wikström also stressed that the current operation is an intelligence operation and not a submarine hunting.

EDIT: Wikström is underlining that it is not a Sub hunt but a intelligence investigation. What ever that would mean.

If there has been a drop of of agents/specail forces is a News speculation.

But Sweden have put more man Power and ships into the investigation. That is confirmed by Wikström.

Of course it isnt a sub hunt anymore - the sub is probably long gone. The "intelligence investigation" he is referring to is finding evidence of it having been there and what it was doing.

Fun fact: The search area is where the baltic internet cables goes.

Magnus Ringby also saw the Sub about 500m from where he and a friend were Fishing. He was not the one who reported it to the authorities.

Here is a translated skript from the News page.

www.expressen.se...

Magnus Ringby and a friend had taken off from work on Friday to go out on a fishing trip in the archipelago.

When the boat ran on Nämdö Bay at 15 o'clock they were met by something unexpected at Kalvholmen.

- It looked like a sauna in the middle of the water with chimneys, gray and camouflage.

- Our first thought was "what does a submarine here? '. We wondered if perhaps it was a military exercise at the time, he says.

He estimates that they found themselves 500 meters from what he believes was a suspected submarine. It moved very slowly and almost looked to stand still, he says.

Edit: Because of the poste above.

ASW is hard work, and the Swedes don't have much capability. Their systems are adequate, but they don't have enough of them to be monitoring all the fjords and that coastline. Whoever it was is back in blue water by now. They'll be looking for hull depressions on the seabed, etc to see if they can find evidence of it camping out.

The description certainly sounds like a submarine sail. They'll probably ask the guys to sketch it and try to ID it that way. The camouflage scheme could be a give away too. If they (the Swedes and Danes) were conducting exercises earlier, it's possible someone else wanted to listen in on that and see what they could learn.

The internet cables thing is an interesting angle, too. I'm sure they'll be inspecting those lines over the next little while, as well.

Atleast it isn't as bad as in the 80's and even 90's when the Swedes were routinely prosecuting targets near shore with depth charges and torpedoes. If there had been an ATS back during the cold war days, there would have been "WWIII" threads every other day. This type stuff today, while fairly serious and interesting, is pretty tame in comparison.

www.svd.se...

To sum it up: An unencrypted Russian distress call about a damaged submarine was intercepted between Skärgården (ie the "fjords" that everyone keep refering to :p) and Kalinigrad on thursday. On friday, they got the visual report. Friday night, encrypted transmissions was detected again.

Another note is that apparently since wednesday, a large Russian owned tanker is laying still in the waters outside the the area.

Norway and Sweden just about retired their military after the cold war ended.
It would surprise me big time if the russians don't have our fjords filled with subs.

Now that is very interesting. Combine that knowledge with the camouflage on the sail (generally, blue water boats are a solid colour: black or blue), and you are probably looking at a smaller littoral sub or min-sub. Maybe the new SSW's they've been working on (similar to the Pirahnas).

The sub that was observed by whitnesses around noon yesturday could have been a rescue sub that came to rescue the sub that had problems.

What Sweden is doing now is trying to figure out if there was conducted some kind of operation under water.

Apparently the Russian owned tanker that was previously outside the area did a complete U turn and is now heading straight east.

And its doing it at very, very, very slow speed.

Someone maybe figured it was too obvious, lol.

Its the NS Concord, Liberia registered, Russian owned.

Edit - This is apparently what the tanker has been doing the last couple of days after it departed Russia:

Seems legit.

Edit again - This is 2 weeks worth of movement (departed the 1st). Someone had a wee bit too much vodka perhaps.

This is the Mini sub that Sweden is looking for and that sent out the destress signal. Its a Triton-NN.

oplatsen.wordpress.com...

Informations about Triton-NN from the Link.

Long was Triton-NN a konceptbåt that was only published as an idea. However, it has turned up some pictures of the craft that may be of interest to see. They will apparently be from 2008 and shows the Triton-NN at surface

Dive boat is a craft designed to transport attack divers hidden until the surgical site. Most often, the three modes, normal mode of water at high speed, stealth mode just above the water surface and elevate like a boat. In this way, it is classified as a mini submarine, although not quite such.

Detailed facts about Triton-NN is unfamiliar then it is a project that is surrounded by tight security.

More of a semi-submersible designed for insertions and extractions. Maybe they were picking up or dropping off an agent... Hence, "intelligence investigation" instead of ASW exercise.

The mini sub theory is just that, a theory. The tanker as a mothership does indicate its a small sub, of course. But we dont know if its a Triton one specifically.

Dropping off a covert agent doesnt make much sense. Sweden isnt a closed country. Russians want to get in? Pack a car full of people and come here via passanger boat. Book a flight. Take sailing boat and dock at one of the many harbours in Stockholm. It aint harder than that. And its far less suspicous.

Picking one up that has been exposed previously... well that is a possibility. But again, I fail to see why they need to be so covert with that too. Just get in a speed boat, go to the mothership which "happen" to pass by, driver take the speedboat back. Problem solved.

This mini sub can be stationary at 20m Depth sea bed for about 5 days. It can not go any deeper With People on Board do to decompression. It also depend on what kind of breathing system the personell are equiped With. When i was a diver in the 90s we had simmular mini sub. But not as big as this one. IF we used Dragar rebreathers we could not go deeper than 13m max. But With conventional 20/80 mixsture we could dive to 20m. for a long time without decompresion.

If this sub have personel onboard and is still inside the Swedish fjord it wont be stationed very deep. Unless the Oil tanker situated in the aria have decompression chaimbers and is actually waiting for the sub. Or the swimers/divers.
