Children have selfish impulses from the day they are born. This idea of innocence as relayed by the Christians is absurd, ignorance is more accurate.
I don't know why other people refrain from sentencing children in most cases, but for me it is a matter of justice and fairness. It is not fair to
take a creature who has had zero time to live by their own authority and determine their own truth and hold them accountable for narrative that was
spun into their lives largely by other people.
All sentient creatures should have the protection of legal personhood. I don't care if a reptile landed out of space tomorrow and started eating
people. If it is self-aware, it shouldn't just be mistreated because it cannot live peacefully within our society. All beings which inhabit a
human-like body should be treated as human. We shouldn't exclude people from the equal protection of the law and morality just because they don't
tick like we do.
The kid is messed up, but he is human. He is more sadistic than other kids his age, but it isn't like he sat down with a clean slate and just chose
to be that way. He had thousands of outside influences guiding him to where he found himself, and he deserves some sympathy.
All criminals deserve some sympathy. No human being is totally a monster, not even people as sick and twisted as Ed Gein. Should a person like Ed Gein
be allowed to walk freely among us? Hell no. Should he be executed? I'd prefer not, but if we have no other reasonable alternative and we can do so
relatively painlessly, then I guess we do what we have to do. Should a ten year old be automatically treated as if he we some type of sociopath just
because he killed one person? I don't think so. I think in all likelihood if you pull back the layers of this kid's life you will find some type of
brain washing and abuse that lead up to this behavior or at the very least a pervasive condition of zero parenting whatsoever.
My nephew Damian loves to punch me in the face. He loves to bite, throw things at people's heads. He loves to knock other kids over. If we didn't
guide his development, he would naturally turn into a monster. It takes years of guidance to work these hostile impulses out of some people, and if a
kid has no parenting, he's going to become monstrous. That is almost inevitable. This is not the fault of the child, but of the society. It is our
responsibility to ensure that the next generation has the level of self-governance needed to live peacefully among others. Otherwise, civilization is
impossible.
