So long story short, friend found this object laying around in their house, and has no idea what it is. Appears to be made of aluminum or stainless steel. No markings otherwise. Note finger for size reference.

Any ideas?

It looks familiar but it's not clicking in my head.

looks like a piece from the 1800s. you can see at the top of picture two that it has a bowl for packing medical grade marijuana in it. the other side is the part you hit it from.

did you find old matches or an ancient lighter as well?

sorry if i came off a little mean, but seriously...can you prove this wasnt built out of parts found from home depot? i can make almost anything from that place.
you know how it is here on ATS....

Looks like it may have been used for a water pipe, an old one.

I know what ya mean. To me, it looks like part of a window, the ones that you use the little handle to open, but the "handle" has a screw on it...course maybe thats where a plastic piece that you would grip would be screwed on...

It looks like a funnel that attaches to something.
Does the top part rotate freely or can you position it and it hold its place

Only that my friend says she found two and has no reason to make it up. I guess it could be a "one of a kind" item designed to do something specific, in which case I guess we'll never know!

thats a great observation, but not what it is. the mechanics in the object wont allow that kind of motion. the alloy is too new.

For some reason I'm thinking furniture. That or plumbing. Also reminds me of something you would find on gardening equipment for some reason.

Part of a machine most likely. Perhaps something was fed through the top part like a fluid or grainy mix and went down the tube, where a hose or pipe connected to the bottom....

Reminds me of parts of huge mixers for baking large batches of desserts. Looks like it allows some freedom of movement, maybe fluids, hydraulics? So many possibilities.

Yeah it didn't look like to me it would. Unfortunately, my friend does not live close to me so I can actually go and handle the part.

LMAO weird. So apparently someone in the family is a tad obnoxious. I haven't seen one of those in a long time.

Good find, there you go OP.

When my friend posted on her Facebook about it, I suggested I put it up on ATS, b/c I knew SOMEONE would have the answer in about 10 minutes, lol. Took 17. Close enough! Thats why I love ATS, so much knowledge in one place.
