Illuminati Trail

I've done quite a lot of research on the Illuminati, and I've found that they many of their artifacts are suspected to be in the shape of an ellipse. I was wondering if anyone knew what fascination men of science would have with an ellipse... They were suspected to have oblesks (a towering slinder pyramid that was about 3 feet in width) that marked their locations of significance...?
