Just finished installing Alien Isolation, so I thought I would start a thread regarding said title considering i'm sure there are many of my fellow ATS members eagerly awaiting this game.

So what are your initial impressions guys and girls?

Oh sweet! Did not know it was out yet, let us just hope it is at least better than colonial marines! Looks like a great horror game but I dont really pay full price for games anymore. I purposefully fell behind in the gaming world so now I am playing new releases from half a year ago, it is definitely cheaper....However I did cave and bought Destiny.

Yes Colonial Marines was a bit of an abortion, still played it through.

I love all things Alien.

I think it looks cool and if you like survival horror games it's probably got plenty for you , for myself the fact you can't kill the Alien is a bit off putting.

Enjoy the game and let us know its strengths and weaknesses , I've seen a couple of early review and it looks good just probably not for me.

Please let us know if you enjoy the game OP. Unfortunately for me, I suffer from vertigo when playing FPS games; so let me know if it's worth suffering through

I would also like to know what you think of the game after playing it for awhile. Im 50/50 on either getting this or not. The big name reviewers were giving this game a mixed bunch. Some thought it was great, some thought it was terrible....im hoping it's good though.

My initial rating after about 10 mins play would be around 7/10, but I need to understand the mechanics a little more before I make a true decision.

***Extremely minor spoilers***

I've just stopped to catch a break. The immersion and level of detail is phenomenal. Sound and graphics are cutting edge and designed by masters.

So far, I'm reeling from the sense of horror that might come from being left behind on an abandoned (?) space station near Zeta Reticuli and coming to terms with how I'm going to get home again. I'm terrified and there's not even a sign of an alien yet.

I tend to agree with you the graphics and sound are top notch, and the lighting effects are rather impressive! Im playing on a 48" HDTV with the lights out and one of the wanes nappies on!
LoL

My GTX 770 4Gb, 8Gb DDR3 and aging Core I5 seem to be handling this title rather nicely. Anybody with a more powerful rig care to chime in?

~Sigh~
I see it's time to upgrade the video card.
First WatchDogs now this, it seems all the new games are headed towards DirectX 11 only ;(

Regarding the OP, the game looks great. Very detailed and from what I've seen and read the immersion and sense of fear is pretty intense.

What is it you want to know? Frame rates or something?

The alien creature can be annoying sometimes. It followed me when I hid in a closet then hid outside making noise, but wouldn't go anywhere. Other times it will see you but not react for a while or take some odd route to get to you.

All that's true to the films, but can also be frustrating. I love the movies so I don't mind too much, but the general rule is that if you think it saw you ... it saw you and it's just acting like a jerk.

Frame rates, temps, glitches whatever you info you feel may be relevant from a hardware perspective.

The Aliens AI does seem to exhibit rather a few shall we say nonsensical actions, hopefully a future update will address these issues.

Seems to stick around 54 frames a second. Which is an odd frame rate. Running 95 / 96F with a 4820k and quadro (work) card with everything set to default max. Seems happy enough. Did notice a little more aliasing than I thought would appear, but is pretty anyway. Movement feels clunky / sluggish but from playing around I gather this is intended.

I quite like the AI mostly, but I've just got in a habit of realizing that if I see the creature and I don't have any distractions or fuel left I should just reload, because when it runs away it's just going to come back a few seconds later and maul me. :/

I know it's maybe not in the spirit of the game ... but would it have killed them to sometimes make the alien go away? Hovers for aaaaaaaaaaages sometimes.

I hate to be 'that guy,' but I have to jump off this hype train. Of course the game is going to be pretty and immersive, but so should every game in modern times... this is 2014. This series just seems played out. Alien? This was popular in the 80's and 90's. We need some new ungodly horror in those space station vents. Rebooting series seems to be a growing trend, even in movies.

Memories are still fresh of Duke Nukem Forever and how that eagerly awaited rekindling of youthful memories got shoved into the cupboard and was forgotten. I'll admit some 90's era gems like Wolfenstein and Doom can be done in modern times, but that's because they've got content and story that can be redone (and has been... looking forward to the newest Doom). There's only one alien we recognize though. Maybe I'm just being put off by first impressions, but I saw a drinking bird on a table, and I haven't seen one of those in ages. Seems like something you'd see in an 80's movie... hell, even Sevastopol reminds me of 80's era star wars esque design. I'm guessing that's what they were going for since the movies represented it that way.

Begging to differ aside, it's a neat basic horror game; get hunted, hide in boxes, don't breathe too hard or it'll smell that dehydrated beef and bean burrito you ate this morning. If being stalked by a big black thing with a phallus shaped head, no eyes, and a little mouth inside it's big mouth is your thing, then by all means get it. If you're a fan of the Alien series, it's a must buy though... as that's the exact market it appears they were trying to cater to.

Curiosity got the better of me and I decided to give it a try , I'm early into the game and have yet to meet the Alien but my initial impression is it's a well optimised game on PC and looks absolutely stunning , Sevastopol is an eery and atmospheric place at the moment no doubt soon to become an eery , atmospheric and scary place.

60 fpf ,Vsync enabled, GTX 750ti @ 49c , Ultra settings.
