Question about deleting pictures

Dear ATS members,

I need some information please.

My gallery is so full. It has old pictures I used for threads years ago, avatars I created for people, etc.

I was wondering what would happen if I started cleaning out my gallery closet, and deleting a good part of my pictures?

Would those pictures also vanish from the threads I posted them in ?
That is my main concern.

I often like to have a good clean up and when deleting those pics by clicking on the little red cross they of course disappear.

BUT the ones in your posts don't.

Erm... Saying that, I have just seen Heffs response... (I meant when I get rid of pics from my upload part of the account)

It may have changed since last I did cleaning, but my last experience was that deleted pictures did, in fact, disappear once one cleared their browser cache.

I've not been around the past year for this upgrade - so I could be wrong.

Yes, I know about the multiple galleries. I guess I'll rearrange those then, should be a fun activity.
It's just everything looks so cluttered, not like me at all.

Hi Heff,

Just deleted a picture in my upload browser and then closed it and went to an old thread with the same picture (after refreshing ATS). The picture is still there... *breathes a hugs sigh of relief*

If you still see a pigeon as the first pic here www.abovetopsecret.com...

Then it has definately worked for me as I have got rid of the pigeon in my upload browser...

And the Stinky killer kitten from the gateway of hell got rid of the pigeon real life... but that is another story.

I deleted a picture I posted 2 days ago, and then went to that thread, and the picture was still there.

I cleared my browsing data and when I went back to the thread my picture was gone.

So, I'll just rearrange my galleries instead.

After a period of time, the pictures you your gallery will disappear from the thread you posted them in. Of this I am 100% certain.

Collective Amnesia

Just to kind of echo what has already been said, in addition to your local browser cache, it can also take a while for removed pictures to be completely cleared from ATS's Content Delivery Network (CDN), which has its own caching systems.

Once that happens, though, they do eventually disappear.
