Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said he had submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council in New York on the two-state solution.
According to a copy of the resolution obtained by AFP, the Palestinians call on the UNSC to set a November 2016 date for an Israeli withdrawal to the pre-1967 lines.
“With regards to the United Nations, I am sure you heard we have submitted a draft resolution to the Security Council, who started consultations a few days ago and will continue for three weeks, perhaps longer, until we receive an answer,” said Abbas.
Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman charged that Abbas was playing to internal politics at the expense of the peace process, which would not be advanced by this move.
Just hours before, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the US condemned the “occupation of residential buildings in the Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan in east Jerusalem -- this is near the old city -- by individuals who are associated with an organization whose agenda, by definition, stokes tensions between Israelis and Palestinians.”
Earnest said the moves by Elad are “provocative acts” that only serve “to escalate tensions at a moment when those tensions have already been high.
“This step is contrary to Israel's stated goal of negotiating a permanent status agreement with the Palestinians,” Earnest said.

I've always said that if the Palestinians ever wanted to see some progress in their favor, they needed to play the political game.
It will be interesting to see what comes of this.
We will see who is pro-peace or only pro-Israel.

There will never be peace in the middle east as long as the Jews occupy Israel. Neither side will be willing to do what it takes to achieve peace.

That may be true, but it appears that the Palestinians have taken the first step towards a compromise. This puts the UN, Israel and their allies in a very bad position.
How they act/react will tell all of us a lot.

It is very easy for the guy that is getting his butt kicked every time to say he wants peace. Fighting obviously hasn't worked so he must change tactics. He can't be trusted either.
