okay, christmas is almost here and i plan to get a DVD burner...

i have some questions...

the DVD burner i am getting can burn dvd-r's up to 12X but the dvd-r disks i am getting can ONLY burn up to 8X...

will this be a problem???

also, what software do i need to backup my DVDs???

If you can manage it, DVDXcopy gold. Cant buy it in the states, but you can order it online.

Alcohol 120% is a good backup program. It can backup everything including movies, software and games.

Are you making this your second CD drive?

If not, and this will be the same drive you use to burn CDs, pay close attention to the read/write speed for your regular CDs as well....You could gain the ability to burn a DVD, but suffer a performence decrease in game play, or have to wait 20 minutes to burn your music CD....

no...

i will have the drive that came with the compter (the one i use to play games / CDs) and when i get my DVD burner i will take out the CD burner drive and put in the DVD / CD drive...

i heard about the problem you mentioned before but with two drives, i just solved it

You could also use Dvd Shrink and Nero for all your needs when i bought me dvd burner nero came free with it
