My only interest is reading books, but I'm a really slow reader. [SNIP] it sucks not being good at anything.

You can be good at not being good at anything.

Silver lining and junk...

S&F to cheer you up and to empathize. Sometimes we all just think we suck. It happens. It will pass. Reading books does not require you to be a speed reader. As long as you understand it and enjoy it... You're good.

You read books. You're miles ahead of many other people. Don't knock yourself.

Be thrilled that you can read and explore fascinating subjects. Reading has helped me through some really difficult times in my life when I needed a good diversion. I especially love fantasy books with dragons and mystical beings and places. There are many wonderful genres. Who cares how fast or slow you read? I read every day of my life and it doesn't matter how quickly I get through it.

Define "slow" in regards to reading speed.

How many words per minute will make you happy??

Just read. I cannot imagine that anyone is timing you except for yourself.

It doesn't matter how fast or slow you read. If you enjoy it, keep at it. Some people can't read at all.

Being a slow reader simply allows one to absorb the content more, compared to others who speed there way though. Enjoy.

Dont be down on yourself man, i love reading it helps me to deal with the stress of the career i ended up in.
i feel reading a book slower allows for better construction in the mind and after a while its like your not even reading it's just there happening.
also got onto these things called MMO's and i suck at playing, try one out. similar to an interactive computer game, book if you will

I can read fast or I can read slow.

When I am reading for fun, it is always slow because it gives one time for your emotions to react.

Remember:

It's not about reaching the end, it's about enjoying the journey to the end, that counts.

The only thing I never liked, was the ending.. Some "worlds" I wish would have gone on forever.

Hey OP.

I have a handy site that will help you progress your reading (maybe).

Much of the time in reading is moving your eyes across and down the page. Some people find it hard to keep track where they are in long sentences, and it's not so much that they can't read - but are just struggling to not be overwhelmed by the wall of text.

So give Spreeder a go. I think there was a thread on ATS about it a while ago too. Well worth training yourself with it, and you can improve your only skill

There is no "good" or "bad" there just 'is'... Don't 'compare' (judge) and You'll absorb 'more'.

If that doesn't work, there are always "books on tape" and that way You can remove what You view as a hinderance and still gleam the info.. a true win/win ! Then the few complaints could be majors like "reader's inflection or accent" is amiss...

FULL DISCLOSURE: Don't read unless You can handle 'The Truth' ...

*** If this is Your biggest "issue" I'd opine that You've got 'it' licked...

Now if You don't teach what it is You're learning then it is ALL for naught...

It's better than being a bad pilot or something. I was a bad skateboarder for twenty years and bad at riding wheelies and the effects of that will keep me in pain for the rest of my life. I read slow too. Just keep doing what you love until you can't. No regrets.

i too am a slow reader.
i use to wish i could read as fast as other people. until i began to talk about the stories i read that i know they read too. i was surprised to find they miss so much of the stories. they quickly forget details that i remember months after i read the story. the fast readers simply skim past a large portion of the print. they don't capture the beauty of descriptive writing. they don't capture the subtlety of a well paced mystery.

you speed readers can keep on speeding

it's slow for me.

NightNgale2 and violet...

OP-
Reading isn't a race, just a journey. Going faster might mean seeing less.
