The report, written by applied mathematician Safa Motesharrei and a team of natural and social scientists, breaks down how and why civilization is, essentially, doomed. The team analyzed five risk factors for societal collapse: water, climate, agriculture, energy, and population. The report explains that over the past 5,000 years societies have collapsed when all of these factors converged to create two important criteria: “the stretching of resources due to the strain placed on the ecological carrying capacity” and “the economic stratification of society into Elites [rich] and Masses (or “Commoners”) [poor].”

Pretty old doom porn isn't it? Isn't this study from 2010?

Not sure if the article is referencing this or not, as another article linked did:

Human and Nature Dynamics (HANDY):
Modeling Inequality and Use of Resources in the
Collapse or Sustainability of Societies

www.atmos.umd.edu...

I know there was another doom porn paper floating around from NASA, a little while ago on the forum, but they were older.

Yah, more global warming…

NASA didn't write the article or endorse it either.

"As is the case with all independent research, the views and conclusions in the paper are those of the authors alone. NASA does not endorse the paper or its conclusions."

Yes they have been theorising on this for years anyway, this is the same-again-only-different updated, (AKA 'new study') from early 2014, and entirely theoretical. They do sneak in a little scaremonger though, the 'Perfect Storm' of resource shortages possible in, 'fifteen years' wherever they dug that out from...well, at least they got paid for this 'new' study!

Anything they wrote, Mr Karl Marx did a better job at it a century and half ago. What ever they are babbling, is pure communistic and socialistic propaganda. From broad scale of current US leadership - and now even NASA - build-up of arguments in favor of transitioning US as a nation into socialistic principles.

The difference the proponents of the socialistic agenda are seeking is, to not re-distribute the wealth - as that is impossible (inflation will kill any wealth thus distributed, and the process requires confiscation and other violations of human rights) - but to keep that wealth under POLITICAL control. Political elite to have the money - as has always so far been the case in socialism/communism. That is the purpose of the whole campaign here.

So, I still believe working and earning your money, and keeping it close to yourself, is the way to go. And what comes to this sort of reports and hoots behind all this - they can gladly go and preach their message in ... hmm... all the commie states are almost gone ... damn ... well they can then go to hell.

Thanks for readings, and godspeed.

What I hate about these doom porn articles is that there is so much emphasis on the outcome and not enough talk about the solutions-We still have the chance to change our ways and prolong our future.

But the truth is that we could be delaying the inevitable. In a googol or so years the universe will fizz out and not even the black holes will survive, but that's a long time away and we could survive that if we had the know how.

It's not over until the fat lady sings, after all life on earth has nearly been wiped out on numerous occasions..and yet he we are.

NASA???

Let's all bow down the NASA Gods of information, research, failed space programs and BS funded by the American taxpayer.

I'm always astonished at the fools that think NASA is some sort of sacred cow to be revered and worshiped.

Considering we have the ability to ship probably a million times more goods, food, etc, across the world in a day than probably was in a year back in like 1912 I think we will be OK. We are at a point in human civilization where we are all global and interconnected.

Personally I think we are in the growing pains of a true global society, it'll happen one day, maybe not one world government but one where everyone will just get along and team up to achieve great things.

Unsustainable ways are obvious across the board and the concentration to "THE FEW INC." fraudulent scheme and they're benefactors like in most all times past is key ~ Matt.18.20

And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. Luke22

Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. James 5

From what I have read about history,it seems that once human cities get to about 100,000 people is when disease kicks in. Any contagious disease needs a population to keep it going or it dies out.I remember years ago reading a paper on the Black Plague that doctors believed that the human population had just really reached the point of being able to sustain a contagion when the plague first hit. According to them, when people first learned agriculture there wasn't enough people for a disease to keep going through,it would just die out if it hit them at all.But as the population increased and cities started building up,then they started seeing this. Now this is all very old info that I have, and I know that it has since been worked out how much population is needed to sustain each disease,(as low as 7,000 for Whooping cough). I somehow get the feeling that as a species we weren't made to group up in such large numbers for our own protection.

A lot of people know that. Anyone who has desired to learn about these things can find all the information about that on the net. It's nice that the People at NASA are saying it, that way more people will believe it.

It is funny that many people will not believe something unless someone with credentials says it. The people with credentials are trained to think a certain way, a way that reinforces a desired social consciousness. I guess that some of these guys weren't conditioned properly at NASA. They are intelligent though, they might have learned to hide their lack of conditioning well.

Much better article on it (your OP article links to it within the article).

They say it could converge in 15 years (from 2010), which would seem to be some bad math....

Not the first time we've heard the argument though, nor the last, I'm sure. We can't keep on like we've been doing. Eventually there will be a break point. But I don't think it will be in my lifetime.
