You are correct those verses you've pointed out are detestable, and in fact are not from God. I know my POV is only slightly less palatable to you probably, but, and I've already gone round the mountain with A-B about it, but here it is. If what was said doesn't line up with the nature of Jesus, which is forgiveness, love, compassion, healing, then it is not of God.

Here is another verse that gets glossed over by many. "Sacrifice and burnt offering I did not desire, nor did I require it". The prophets which came far after the Torah, had come to understand more clearly that God does not require sacrifice, that He is different than all the other gods who do require sacrifice. They still had a partial view of the true nature of God, as that is only revealed in Christ.

Again I know that probably doesn't really cut it for you, but I just wanted you to know there are some of us who don't buy the whole thing hook line and sinker. And this concept commonly called "Non Violent Atonement" is the paradigm of many real theologians and scholars. This is not just my pet doctrine or anything.

No I appreciate your response deeply...it is a very good response and I have much more respect for someone who can see some things that don't make sense. The bible has great moral philosophy...that is all it is to me but there are many good lessons to be learned. I 'd rather hear what you have said then an excuse for the crap that is left in there. Thank you..this was what I was after...but wasn't targeting you...lol

The difference between new and old testament is like night and day to me.

I'm so glad my reply blessed you. Yes there is much difference. Much is built off the old in the NT, but in a very liberal fashion.

One guy who writes about this stuff says the OT is like a strobe light, it flashes between light and dark, and looking at it makes you confused and disoriented

i guess to me there are two types of bible huggers...ones that follow blindly obeying every thing written...if you question one word they pounce on you about hell and everything else even if you question the most ridiculous statements.

Then there are others who say they understand the bible aint perfect but its still something they believe in.

I think all of it is bunk but I also am not 100% sure about god. There very well could be a god, but I haven't read one book to ever make me think that. I just honestly don't know. But I can't stand the bull# preaching and if you throw one thing..anything back at them...its ...well welcome to hell or...you just gotta have faith. For someone to ssay they find flaws in the bible but still appreciate the religion then I can respect that much much more ffrom someone than just blatant lies to make themselves feel better.

Edit: sorry mis read your post haha...to me old testament is brutal...very tough love from god...new testment you find jesus and a calmer god. New testament appears to be...like an oh # book written after the old looked ridiculous. They are both part of the bible but yet people constantly make excuses to avoid one or the other. It is one book! You can find silly things in both nt and ot but it definetly has a different feel. Plus there are so many splinters of Christianity at this point I can't keep what is what straight.
