The rate of meteors has not increased. What has increased is the number of cameras we now have pointed everywhere that happen to "see" more meteors than before.

Plus, there is now a greater ability for news of a fireball meteor to be spread around the world more quickly via internet forums, such as ATS. These are no longer just regional news events.

It used to be that "people in Spain see fireball meteor" was not really newsworthy, so few people would have heard about it. However, now "video of fireball in Spain taken by security camera" can be seen by everyone on the internet.

Makes sense, but even within the advent of the internet, there seems to be an increase in reports lately on ATS within a short span of time (though only a few).
