Connecticut State Police on alert for possible threat to Obama

State police have been put on alert for a possible threat against President Barack Obama, according to a state police spokesperson. Lt. Paul Vance explained he was given information by the U.S. Secret Service to be on alert for a person coming through the state who may have threatened Obama.

Obama is in Rhode Island Friday evening for a private fundraising event. According to a White House pool report, he arrived in Newport just before 7 p.m. The Hartford Courant reports that the suspect is believed to be driving a silver 2014 Volkswagen Jetta.

Nicole Mainor, a public affairs staff assistant for the Secret Service, sent the following statement: "Information has been received by law enforcement regarding a potentially suspicious person and vehicle. We are working with our local law enforcement partners to determine the validity of the information provided."

This is just breaking...not sure of any other details other than what the article is claiming. I would be curious to know if this is a domestic threat or something along the lines of IS ISIL ISIS...whatever they are in this day's increment.

If it's just one fella...I don't think this will end well for him if he truly is heading to attempt to do harm to the President though.

Knowing the natives of RHode ISland, I can pretty much guarantee they will most likey screw up any plan made without even trying by just being how they are when they go about their day. Lol and If someone is "driving" with a plan, yeah that will be sure to get messed up! I'm sure other Rhodies will agree with me.

Americans haven't been scared and over concerned lately so the gov is ramping paranoia.

A silver VW Jetta? Well, we can rest easy knowing it's not a pissed-off redneck.

Maybe a soccer mom or a disgruntled IT guy?

Let's see what happens.

Let's hope with all the shoot to kill ask questions later episodes that there isn't a rash of silver VW Jetta shootings come morning.

Many "rednecks" drive VW's. You simply don't know what you're talking about. I've owned quite a few Beetles and one Jetta and know many other who have as well. Rail buggies(chopped down VW's) are also a big thing. the end.

Threat to Obama?

If thats the case lock him up and throw away the key, because the biggest threat to Obama is himself....

Surely the Secret Service get many reports of suspicious people and threats to harm the President, I wonder why this one was leaked to the press.

It was an attempt at humor, folks.

I owned a Jetta once and I'm not afraid to admit it. Now I drive nothing but beat-up pickups.

You gotta roll your eyes at this part..."private fundraising event" Lets spend millions of tax dollars to fly Obama around to do PRIVATE fundraising. This is like selling 200 dollars of food stamps for 50 dollars cash.
