I originally had this thought a number of years ago. But the thought popped up in my head during a conversation earlier today. If over half of the population goes to hell, God failed. His creating the world caused a greater amount of suffering than it did joy. So, in that case, God failed. He shouldn't have created the world. He messed up, big time. No matter WHAT religious belief is true, well under half of the population believes it. And if the doctrine is that non-believers go to hell, well over half of the population will go to hell. Thus, God failed.

What if God is a sadist?

What do you believe?

If I'm sent to "hell" because I question a god it sounds like extortion.

"god" is a fictional character the church has used to influence people for hundreds of years.

What if I told you the boogeyman was real? If enough people believe then it must be the truth.

"He should not have created the world"
You can always opt out if you do not like it.

Good job at completely missing, or ignoring, the point of the thread

a reply to: TheJourney Well i do hold the record here for missing the point. Perhaps you could spell it out for the slow ones like me. Everything i read says you think GOD failed and should not have even tried.

According to the bible, satan wins. There will very few in heaven and everybody else goes to hell.
What a piss poor job.

it was a conditional statement. IF the religious teachings on hell are true, THEN god has failed. of course, theres so many teachings on hell, who knows whats true and what isnt?

There is nothing in the bible that says suicide is a sin.

The catholic church decided suicide is a sin.

does the taking of one's own life not qualify as murder? myself, i do not consider it to be murder. but then, my morals are not necessarily those of religious doctrine.
edit on 28-8-2014 by TzarChasm because: (no reason given)

If we are created in his image then I believe we all go to heaven, the only hell we should worry about is our own personal hell that some of us struggle with.

Well if you classify suicide as murder you could say masturbation is rape.

Man is in charge of the spiritual direction of his/her life, given free will and all. Evil exists. Bad things happen. This is life, not Utopia.

Congrats on identifying incongruity number 4,123 in the religious storyline... they need a better continuity checker.

Is the idea of hell rational? Or is it a human construct to keep folks in line and paying for admission to the executive box?

And really, IF it does exist, then God has some issues...

you could, but youd be wrong. even if the victim is willing, it still counts as murder. not the same with rape.

Along with me missing the point i also hold no shame. My view on ending ones life is that if you do it too soon then possibly you have denied yourself the suffering you came here for and then you will have to come back for more. I believe that through suffering we gain changes in our dna that is needed for us somewhere besides here in hell.

Let's say that if you are very close to completion but you end it before it is done then you have to come back for just a few yrs to finish it. Would you want to be stuck here for another full life and risk damaging what you have suffered for or would you rather just die as a child and rise to the place you have struggled in hell for? if you die then the world cries for the death of a child when you could have finished it the first time. Like i said in my post you can opt out if you want but at what price.
