Thanks for your response. I'm perfectly willing to admit to vast amounts of ignorance here, and i appreciate learning, but I wasn't actually lumping them together as all the same.

My thinking is almost childishly simple. If Special Forces can do significant damage to ISIS, is there some reason not to consider using them against other targets with equal ferocity and support? It wasn't that many weeks ago when Boko Haram was considered the prime enemy in Africa. Would we consider taking them on as our next target? Perhaps they need a different type of tactic. I'm just asking if this approach might be considered as likely for future operations.

tactics are for amateurs logistics are for professionals. You have to remember that the extra curve using spec ops can boost an untrained army to a functioning and motivated fighting force enough where as controllable does not need to require an occupying force of foreign military. Africa is a situation that no matter what you throw at will not change easy as the culture customs and mindset is all together different and the raw resources and greed are endless. It truly is a tragedy in African provinces however if criteria meets a certain level will be dealt with by opposing force greater then what is expected by a bunch of hobos with rockets and AK's.

Sp ops have always been there. So what else is new.

the SAS are my most favorite commando unit, they do not remotely mess around and im sure they will be very effective as long as the intel is good, they will get the job done.

I hope no innocents get caught in the cross fire.

My father when he was in the RAF was on some strange intel mission, he practically got beaten up and dragged around by the SAS, he said and i wont forget this "if thats how they treat friendly's i dont want to know what they do to enemys"

edit: also on a related note my father met some SAS snipers, he said they where the most horrible mean and alone people imaginable, simply the worst of the best, great at their job but total assholes to hang out with at the base.

Iraq is just the precedent starter. A unit like this will exist for centuries, eliminating all opposition it sees as a threat to it's existence, any locale.

Thanks for the information. It's good to go to the people who know. I've heard, unless I have my countries confused, that Chad is beginning to turn into an army with soldiers, while Nigeria is, well ....

Are we bringing their fighters to the US for training? Can we do achieve stability there with an extremely limited Western presence? Is our own leadership sufficiently interested to take on such a task?

Not sure if anyone has provided this tidbit....But do you know why the US SF failed to extract Foley??

The story is not as Black and white as you may think....Actually it is, ya see SF knew where the hostages were and were ready to go after them....2 weeks prior to the attempt!! Yes, 2 weeks is how long SF had to wait for Obama the numb nut to give the go ahead. By the time the military our Special Forces were "ALLOWED TO MOVE ON THE MISSION" the mission had already been leaked and the hostages moved.....The ____..Tards IS, did NOT even know our guys were there......so lets be clear about one thing, our military SF did not fail, the piss poor NON leadership of this country failed! So, who is responsible for Foley's death?

Nobody but nobody would be that stupid to list a secret mission about to carried out by SAS, DELTA, SEALS, and the top fighting forces in the world for all of us to sit and speculate about....Ya'll think about it, this is a decoy, has to be...
I'm not saying that something wont happen but not like this......it's too obvious and keep in mind, those guys DO NOT FAIL!!

I don't believe our military did fail, I'm curious why you would direct that at me as I am a former Marine and have a lot of experience in the region as an 0311. I do believe our supposed leadership isn't really leaders they somehow just assumed the role from representatives to asshol3 then to leader with the rotten ass still there. i was once deployed within hours from America from Camp Lejuene NC to Port Au Prince Haiti in less then 9 hours for an op back in 04 by order of the executive office of the presidency of the United States. I see know reason why if extraction in a NEO op could have been accomplished was not unless of course intel was wrong or someone was choking on a d1ck. Im not a political commentator but I will strongly suggest that there are things going on in the world that even those in the highest of earthly places do not understand because these things are made a bigger picture by smaller pieces seemingly unrelated yet come together in such a way all the bigger players win and hundreds of others lose there life. It really is a messed up place in space we happen to live in a really strange time.

You obviously do not realize the sheer talent these men have and yes i say talent cause there are no idiots on these teams....They are trained to endure the most stressful situations known to a human, not react and keep their wits about them.....As for being in human cant speak for all of them, but the guy I am in love with is one of the most kind, gentle, souls you would ever want to meet.....values family and honors women....trained killer oh most def....but do not be fooled, they have regrets, they hurt and they bleed when cut but they are on your side they are there to do the job when no one else can or will!!
