Just as it looked like Google were about to seal the deal in it's acquisition of Twitch it's been announced that Amazon has bought video-game streaming service for $970m.
I see this as a positive move and am relieved Google didn't get Twitch

"Broadcasting and watching gameplay is a global phenomenon and Twitch has built a platform that brings together tens of millions of people who watch billions of minutes of games each month," said Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos in a statement. "We look forward to learning from them and helping them move even faster to build new services for the gaming community," he added.

I am also glad google didn't buy it. Youtube seems to have restricted peoples ability to search over the years.

doesn't really matter as the NSA etc will have full access 24x7 so does it really matter who owns a company if the owners of the owners are the same people?

I'm sure the NSA have better things to be doing than watch people play video games all day.

You beat me to it! I am one of the many also glad that Google didn't purchase Twitch. I'd much rather have Amazon hands-down if I had to pick between the two.

I do not think the NSA has enough time for twitch. They are too busy sniffing through my emails.

You sure about that? lol I've seen some might interesting conversations open up on gaming servers sometimes. It's rare but it happens though I doubt that the NSA would've been really all that interested in those conversations.

As far as the Twitch acquisition goes, as somebody that does stream on occasion via Twitch, I'm ambivalent about it. On one hand, kind of sick of smaller companies being acquired up by larger ones because, really? Does *insert major company here* have to buy every company on the freaking planet? But overall, yes, glad it wasn't Google as well as I'm really not fond of Herr Google's policies.

I wonder why they sell it for 1billion.
If you consider that several start ups are worth a lot of billions more, it is surprising that some established company is being sold so cheap.
They really seem to value the work ethics more than the pure money. At least I hope so.
