Well, if you find solace in the most boring thing on earth, good for you. I think comparing the mind-numbing christian songs that make most people fall asleep, to uplifting spiritually healing sound is a bit much.

You'd be better off saying that what people are missing from church is the fellowship.

Christianity is boring and everything about it must follow suit. I'm not saying don't be christian, but maybe incorporate some different styles of music to worship your god? For heaven's sake not christian rock, though - that stuff is even more soul-killingly bad than the old-fashioned hymns.

How about those black christian choirs? They are amazing and make even me want to get up and praise the lord! I don't even believe in the lord!

Well i'm not gonna deny your right to opinions but why do you have the need to dump on other peoples opinion. I agree that christian churches that have african roots can get down but they are still the same christians you bashed in the first part of your post. It is a bit contridicting and leaves the reader to think you have something against white christians. If you read the op again you will see that i posed the thought that the older hymns may have been divinly inspired in a manner that invokes the om sounds and more in such a way that can open ones self to levels of spirituality that would otherwise go closed. There is really no need for the unjustified hate toward christians. It is childish. Have you ever heard the saying live and let live. I wass not doing any recruting or forcing my view on anyone. My goodness man find some respect and we can all be better off here.

Yeah, I pretty much do have to dump on christianity. Yo see, it's been the main cause for so many horrible problems, all the while it's members have been singing those old and boring dirges in their cult houses and getting away with it.

I think I was quite lighthearted about it, but since you know that I have a problem and likely know that the problem I have is quite valid, you should expected that what was to come if pushed was something less pleasant.

I see absolutely no difference between christianity and any other dangerous cult.

If you think it's been long enough for everyone to forget the damage of christianity, think again.

Now, back to the songs - what are you - my great-grandmother? Like I said, that black gospel is amazing. The other stuff is pretty well the most soul-killing music ever created by humans and surely does the opposite that life the soul.

a reply to: BasementWarriorKryptonite That's all fine and dandy but when efforts are made to bridge the gap between your expierences and mine then we would all be better off to find the deeper meaning through mutual respect. It works against humanity to shun every mention of something greater. Your stance only keeps the divide alive. The thread was made in a manner that tried to respect the fact that bs has been done to many in and out of churches. I tried to show that when things happened to people like the poster on the first page the vile acts may have taken away more than just somewhere to fellowship and that there may be something to gain by understanding that music has power over our soul. What i see in the sturcture of the old hymns goes beyond just one single om sound or meditation and i proposed that they were designed like a combonation lock. Something like do not throw the baby out with the bath water comes to mind and you seem to be fighting a battle that will not be won but can be overcome.

Then have a laugh with me about boring old church songs! I think we can both be honest with each other and have a s'n-word' about those ridiculous old style church hymns that were so bad they were almost funny.

Imagine if christian churches started incorporating tibetan singing bowls or other things that resonated down to people's very cells, into their music and hymns. It would be a reason to go back and see what was going on - a great way of renewing the experience.

Or even if the church went back to it's roots and started singing in that mystical egyptian fashion - something like that.

When I think of the songs I currently think about, I imagine pilgrims in the old west doing their weekly Sunday duty and trudging off to church, rather than it being an uplifting experience.

Oh my bloody god can you believe this idiot site censored a word for laughter? I'm losing faith that this place isn't as stupid as my own government.
