Employers Rushing To Change Health Plans Before Obamacare Tax Hits

Employers Rushing To Change Health Plans Before Obamacare Tax Hits

Basically the great idea is to TAX people who decide to spend money on a good health care plan.

The so-called Cadillac tax will hit health plans with a 40 percent tax on any benefits valued at more than $10,200 a year — and employers are scrambling to limit their benefits before then.

So Employers, or private citizens, who choose to get a good healthcare plan to ensure them and their family are healthy are PENALIZED for doing so. How on Earth could anyone see that as a good idea? All this will do is cause them to pay cash. Rather than steal money from people who get good coverage, they should be rewarded. Instead, we have chosen to penalize companies, and $10,200 a year is NOT a lot, this is not the 1%, this will impact a lot of people and cause their employer to DECREASE their healthcare coverage.

obumacare was never about making healthcare affordable or about health.
it was all about money and government control of your life.

those that think it is, have been drinking to much of the kool aid.

I know of quite a few businesses that have scaled back to get under the 50 employee mandate. I also see lots of companies cutting their full time employment down in huge numbers to get away from this.

I've shouted about this from day one but most folks said I was fear mongering. Guess who was right?

Pay up or shut up, this is what y'all wanted. Instead of adressing the real problem with healthcare, y'all gave the insurance companies the green light to rape EVERYONE. Congrats, hope you're happy with your decision to screw EVERYONE over.

In other news. I'm getting a 1% refund tomorrow (payday) from my company issued healthcare provider because United Health Care (Damn right I'm going to name drop them, screw insurance companies) only spent 79% of their total premiums on health care and health improvement programs when they are supposed to spend 80% (as per Obamacare). I don't support Obamacare, but damn do I support getting more money

You're right. $10,200 a year isn't a Cadillac policy in my opinion. At the previous company I worked for in 2010 and earlier, a family plan cost around $800 to $850 a month. It was a decent PPO plan with United HealthCare, but I still had numerous out of pocket costs, $20 to $50 co-pays depending on the doctor, etc.

I also agree with the poster who said that many employers are scaling back to under 50 people (although for 2015, the limit will temporarily be 80 and then it reverts back to 50 for 2016).

At the end of the day, if I decide to pay a few hundred dollars more a month to hedge my bets against something happening with my families health, who is the government to tell me it's excessive and tax me. What's excessive is their endless pissing away of money on useless programs. Hey government, clean your own act up before sticking your nose into the PRIVATE choices that I make.

Heck yeah. My employer dropped the "Gold Plan" that I had been in for years, and I loved the plan. All I had to pay anywhere was a copay - never anything extra. Sure it had a higher monthly cost but it was worth it. Now I'm stuck with a middle of the road plan for about the same cost and %20 out of pocket everywhere after copay. Thanks Obama.

Lots of money churning going on with insurance.

With many hands skimming the cream off the top.

The ACA.Obama.Care seems very discriminatory.

But the money is good.

Kind of interesting how the pro-Obama crowd did not make a splash in here.

I haven't been looking into that much, I expect it will be a while before any actual truth is known so no point right now.
