I think in the light of recent events this may prove a little food for thought for some.

"The nation was in shock. This does not happen in our country," said Thora Arnorsdottir, news editor at RUV, the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service. She was referring to a 59-year old man who was shot by police on Monday. The man, who started shooting at police when they entered his building, had a history of mental illness

www.pri.org...

When I read this I was like wow.. It shows a very different attitude the police have in different cultures. Even though the man was armed and shooting at police they apologised to the family of the deceased.

After witnessing what is happening in the US at the moment and the arming of police in scotland you have to wonder if we are doing something very wrong..

purp..

You all should move to Scotland then. I wish you would. They should have tazed him, this is BS!

A few years ago if I remember correctly Icelanders demonstrated by banging pots and pans not looting and burning stores. Everyone in the town at the exact same time would stick out their windows and on their verandas and out in the street etc.. and bang on their pots and pans until they got what they wanted.
They jailed the corrupt politicians and banksters changed the system and took back their country. It was hard but they knew what they had to do in order to make things better for themselves and as far as I know their economy is recovering nicely.
Plus I don't think they have that gangsta attitude where their pants are half way below their butts and their caps are screwed on sideways or walk with that cocky limp type step. or talk like "yo! hey dude sup? Ya feel me ? and all the rest of it.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but you don't protest by burning down your own town. And, if anyone thinks for a second those people don't know who looted/rioted, they're naive.

Chicago is a very discriminative, and segregationist town that has never had multiculturalism. It was stomped out between Daley I and Daley II. It is city policy and it has been no secret Chicago only has four surviving populations of race Black, White, Chinese who are being pushed out, and Mexicans, who were allowed to take over for voting purposes. That is why deaths are higher in Chicago than NYC. In NYC, it is the pit of multiculturalism, and the city administration did not run out every race that came there as a matter of public policy.

The man, who started shooting at police

And we can stop right there..... Mentally ill or not, if you're a cop, and your life is in danger, you are going to shoot. If one lacks the mental capacity to figure that out, then Mother Nature has already determined your fate.

but in US self-defense seems to be shoot first and shoot to kill. no second chances

Him or me? Yep, I'm going to shoot first if I feel my safety is in danger. As for shooting to kill....shooting to wound = shooting to miss and hit innocent bystanders instead. Any profession that shoots is trained to aim for center of mass, period. If law enforcement has a gun drawn on you, and you do ANYTHING but cooperate...that's on YOU.

America certainly is doing it wrong and has been for a long time. The only time a man should be shot and killed by the police is if he IS in a shootout with them like in this case. What even is the point of less thanlethal means? They never use them.

The most deplorable thing about it time is the fact that American Police would NEVER eventhink to apolofize for a shooting justifird or not. And why should they? 90% of the general pop supports their murderous acts openly.

Even When one of these shootings happen - eveb the MAJORITY of ATS does nothing more than rush to pull any excuses they can out of their asses to cover for the police. Whar has happened to ATS? What has happened to America? It should never be the job of the people to make excuses for the police in a shooting for christs sake. They should have to reasonably justify it themselves...

We are headed to bad places when even ATS welcomes the police state with open arms...

Apples and Oranges compared to America. Sprinkle in some of our finer inner city entitled citizens, some like the ones that murder 9 year old children and I would bet the cops would be very busy with their guns over there.

Edit to Add: i was just reading it is very hard to get into that country if you are of African origin.
www.encyclopediaofafroeuropeanstudies.eu...

I think we need to dig a little deeper when comparing a society that wants to preserve their culture with a society that is committing cultural suicide via multiculturalism. Apples & Oranges.

Imagine that, if you're selective about who you let into your country you can help control crime rates. You'd think the USA would take note.

Oh ya, I guess thats why Toronto is such a crime ridden place right? The issue is poverty. And if you live in a country that condemns certain races to poverty you're going to have a disproportionate amount of people from that race involved in crime. Theres a direct connection between how people are being treated and how they act.

There was a time when Irish and Italian immigrants were the ones committing more crime, they moved up, minorities moved in and things shifted.

Multiculturalism has nothing to do with it when you live in a place that treats every culture equally.

I find it fascinating that a Nation descended from the Vikings (terrifying, barbaric, ruthless, raiding, thieves) have come to be known as the envy of the modern age when it comes to level of civil respect and care.

There is no greater reason to stop using the past history of peoples, centuries old, to define their descendants in the modern age.

God Bless,

There is also no greater reason to actually read some history... The people of Iceland (and most parts of Scandinavia) are descended from a people called Norse. A very few of these norse was going viking but if you actually look it up, alot of them was very much NOT barbaric berzerkers and a very proud people with highly advanced crafting and had a very social society. I know you mean well but your comment was kind of insulting to my ancestors.

Just a side note.

I've been watching the krona since I learned the '08 story. It's been slowly climbing this past few weeks.
I wish my bank would offer an exchange of currency, that's something I would invest in if I could.

Look at her climb!

Are the people of Iceland truly at the helm of their own administrative policies?

Nope.

Nice graph.

It depicts exactly as I have said.

But many rural places in America is just like that. No shootings, low crime and people generally get along good with local law enforcement. And some of these places is in lower poverty than the worst ghettos, but yet again, little to no crime.
