If you look at the original image you notice that the pile of debris has been covered up with dirt that is darker than the surrounding dirt, just as it would look if you covered up something with fresh dirt out in a barren field or desert on Earth, fresh soil with more moisture. It seems to me they used the rover to cover this up with dirt.

Also, if you zoom in there is a vertical line on the right side of the image where the color is different. The entire 7/8 of the left portion of the image has been darkened.

Sorry that was my screen burn.

You all know they call us nutters because of these threads dont you?

Thanks a lot.

This thread should be called: when a rock is not a rock? When its a rock on mars.

Congratulations for denying ignorance...

May I ask why you originally decided to become a member of ATS?

Ive seen Ufos myself in 3 different occasions. So searching for truth basically.

But all these threads are emberassing and nothing but a waste of forum space.

1 word: pareidolia. Look it up. At any site with a lot of rocks on earth you can find things like this. Especially if you make photos from 1 angle with few colours you can find anything you want to find. In the end its just rocks.

People find potato chips that look like celebrities. Do you really think youre seeing something special? If so why just 1 bone every time. No ruins no caves no plants no weapons or anything. Nothing that points to these rocks being anything more than a nice case of pareidolia. I wish these pictures were put in 1 thread. Its not like its news with any kind of value. Its just the same stuff every single time.

Not really. We know that Mars had water at one point...probably oceans of it. It's a valid theory to suppose that life evolved there. It doesn't take much to suppose that large life forms and even intelligent life forms could have evolved there millions of years ago.

With that theory or hypothesis in mind. It would only make sense to look for fossils and remains of ancient civilizations. Right? You don't go around yelling pareidolia at Archaeologists and paleontologists here on earth, do you?

Why can’t people realize that (at one time), there was life on mars much like our own that existed, and that something catastrophic took place that destroyed that life.

So should you post every rock bone you see on Mars in a new thread? According to you weve found tons of life already then and this is getting really old.
And here on earth we can research fossils and rocks. If it were just pictures i could yell pareidolia.

Tell me why this thread is more than a picture of a rock on Mars that looks like a bone?

your garbled fingered utterance of a post makes less sense than 90% of all the posts I've ever posted

these pictures are new , released daily almost, how is this old apart from the sense of 'leggys' time resting on the surface of mars?

as more photos of the martian surface appear , the likely hood of further posts is , well , likely

So why did you write 10% of your posts?

Anyway: what is more likely that a rock breaks of, leaving a bit of an unusual shaped rock (if you can even call this shape unusual) or this being an actual fossilised bone?

Or what is more likely: A rock being carved and scratched by water in a way that it ends up looking unusual or it being a fossilised head with crown for example?

If you think the latter i suggest you visit a mine or quarry or just find yourself some different rocks or stones and start smashing them. Or go to a river and look at all the different kinds sedimentary rock.

But all we have are pictures and some scientific data...mostly its pictures though, for now. So that's what we need to look at and examine. I never said that we've found lot's of life or anything of the sort.

what I'm saying is that there is a strong possibility that there was evolved life on mars and that we need to keep looking for the evidence of it. Again...stop yelling rocks at every picture and if you don't share the belief in my/our hypothesis then don/t read these threads. LOL

UFO Watcher Spot Mysterious Bone-like Object on Mars

The latest oddity spotted by bloggers who follow the images coming from Mars rover Curiosity doesn't take a lot of imagination to see.

It really looks like a thigh bone. Well, some kind of bone.

I just dont see why these This-martian-rock-looks-like-something-from-earth-threads should be spammed to the front page each and every time. At least I got it a long time ago: yes there are rocks on Mars that look a bit like bones.

But is the 200th thread about yet another rock that looks a bit like a bone really more important than a really unique thread? Or real news about Gaza, Isis or you name it? Do we really have to have one of these every week for like half of the week on the front page? Is the 200th piece of rock that looks a bit unusual really that special?

Look i normally dont read em, I just think the 200th thread (yes I'm PROBABLY exaggerating) about this on the front page, that keeps hanging for half a week, is just a bit of a waste of space. Really no offense ment, but is it really necessary to have these almost every week? Cant we have these posted in one pinned thread where people that are still interested can easily find new pictures?
Does that sound that unreasonable? Because I read so many threads in the ''News''-part of the site that never make the front page but are often much more interesting for a decent debate. We all know how these Martian-rock threads end up by now:
"Hey look at this picture from Mars. See that rock, I highlighted it. Where? oww that rock. Well after looking twice it does look like something you say it is. Ow maybe it is then. Yes it is! No it isnt, yes it is. "

Do you really call that examining; namely having almost identical threads and discussions every time?

(These are sincere questions and I dont mean to offend anyone with them.)

Points understood but...what would be more earth shattering than finding proof that there was an ancient civilization on Mars. That would change everything, every religion, every history book, all of science. We would then be in a mad dash to put foots on the ground. Think of the technology that we would produce. The whole world would change over night. or...

We could discuss democrats vs republicans and show how brainwashed we are...we could discuss the value of killing innocent Palestinians and breaking out peace talks because of a few terrorists...we could discuss police brutality yet again and evolution vs creationism yet again and please tell me again how Obama has ruined the country and become the antichrist...and how many vacations he's had and what Michelle Obama said and ....

yeah...i think this is actually more important.

I take it you missed the thread Curiosity: Potential Anomalies (Update 01/2014) created by jeep3r. a few people tend to post up their finds in there, has been going since January , so I guess there would be a hell of a lot more than 200 a week *phew*

sometimes peeps think a find Is important enough to go on to be a fully fledged thread , fair enough , and if it becomes popular by this odd voting system, well I guess its just down to ats members voting it up

Really? so this one was important enough? I really cant imagine that since this discussion is looking exactly like the previous one I read a bit (Yes i get lured into these threads a lot with those creative thread-titles, but the last one I read some posts in is a long time ago.) I think it was just a member who didnt know the existence of that thread. And I find it incredible that people keep flagging these threads to the front.

And I didnt say 200 a week, I said one per week and 200 in total.

Trust me I would love for that to happen but these threads or pictures dont proove that, at all. Its just the same discussion every single time. Would be fine with me if it wasnt this regular. I mean there was just a few days in between this and the last one on the front page (some crowned skull? look alike rock or whatever).

I wish some of you would just hold your horses till we have men on Mars or until then keep these pictures and discussion in the appointed thread: Curiosity: Potential Anomalies (Update 01/2014) I probably sound whiny by now but is that really too much to ask? I didnt know the thread but i assume they didnt create it for nothing..
