Mob Destroys Ebola Center In Liberia Two Days After It Opens (probably infecting many more)

Everything looted goes for sale. So it's not necessarily the thieves who suffer, but the buyers. Consider the locals who insist that money is worth more than lives, they marinate daily in an open sewer and a fair proportion of them starve and have HIV, and would really sell their little sister for a meal, already, they hate traditional farm labor on the idea of a plantation, so one more disease is another warning to ignore.

In the 80s I talked with a wise man from I think South America about the status of West Point and Liberia. He said it's going to take a few generations to encourage the locals to change the disastrous condition of the place. Except it's not going to happen until some group has a memory made of what it is like to live without problems, and can share it, or to see a better life on the other side away from dead-by-8-years poverty. Imagine a square meter without garbage or sewage on the ground, then make it better. I know there are some people there and they aren't the voted government, they have seen a better lifestyle. By 30 generations they could have it looking 1st world high standards, disease-controlled, living. It might be sooner than than if they hasten their deaths with ignorance of the wisdom of doctors, because then they'd all get sick and die and the non-sick ones would take over the land. It's all in how they want to be as a group, if they can respect rules that have good life results, what else can be done? After all, a bed doesn't get rid of disease, it just adds more stuff for the disease to cling to when many of them just sleep on the ground.

It would be something considering how diseased the place is already if the ebola ran away from them because it's so messed up already. How many calories does an Ebola virus have?

I know some people that did VSO in Africa.

A friend spent a few years teaching in Ghana in the 80's and was astounded at the levels of AIDS there even then and how their ways persisted despite education.

Most of those places are still the same 30 years on and with vast funding and educational resources from developed lands, it should be far more sorted now.

Basic education on sanitation should mean they all use appropriate facilities, built of mud, holes in the ground if necessary. How can a nation ever step out of it's disease cycles unless it listens to sense and is proactive.

Similarly for farming, it can only work if people there are prepared to make an effort. Constant leaflets and education is essential if Africa is ever going to progress.

They believe that they have been cursed by evil witch doctors. There is no disease; it is evil spirits making them ill. They also believe the doctors in the medical centers are killing and eating the bodies of the infected, too.

The problem is that even, as a perspective from the west, this spiritual leaning is just a factor that compounds the plagues of their land, after belief is a practice. Behind every disease is a spirit, I would argue, and while we don't treat the spirit we treat it's footprint; it's not too different from western culture except we use different vocabulary for "magic potions" called prescriptions, and instead of "demons" we call them illness. I thought they made it illegal to eat human flesh. Maybe it's not exactly anti-ebola doctors but other "doctors" calling some deaths ebola when it's organ harvesting, or stereotypically bad publicity.

No, the nurse in at least one of the medical facilities was spreading rumors that the doctors were taking the dead and eating them. The funeral rituals in these countries demand that families personally wash and prepare the bodies of their deceased loved ones and then serve a meal to the others who attend the funeral. The mourners also throw themselves across the body of the dead person and kiss the corpse.

The corpse of an Ebola victim is extremely infectious. So, the people who wash the body are at extreme risk, the people who eat the food prepared by the people who wash the body are also at risk of receiving contaminated food, and the mourners are at extreme risk from the corpse.

Medical professionals have been trying to remove corpses and dispose of them either through burial or burning which is where the rumors come from. It is an infection control measure.

But please, go right on ahead believing this is all some dastardly ruse to harvest third world organs, and when and if Ebola comes here, we will proudly display to all and sundry that we are in fact just as ignorant and superstitious as the African people are. Then, we too, can all die and throw our dead in the streets and search for the demons that are plaguing us even as we bleed and die and can't figure out why.

When I heard about this on the radio yesterday morning I laughed so hard I nearly swerved off the road. I swear some of the stories that come out from that continent are so good they just have to be fattening.

We have our first ebola case today, a man who is being tested for Ebola due to high fever.

I always knew the zombie apocalypse was coming. Something I need to add to this:

Black people don't believe in Ebola, they don't believe that eating bats and monkeys have catastrophic side effects. That's why this has gotten so rife in the past 5 months, they wont believe in western medicine, they believe in their cultural methods which in my personal opinion is the reason why we are sitting where we are.

The city's Health Authority said in a statement carried by the state news agency WAM late on Sunday that the 35-year-old was travelling from Nigeria to India for treatment of advanced metastatic cancer.

Her health deteriorated while in transit at Abu Dhabi's main airport and as medics were trying to resuscitate her, they found signs that suggested a possible Ebola virus infection.
